Really big ping spikes

I'm on a wired connection and there are normally 4 other people connected to the internet at the same time as me (family). Recently I've been getting insane ping spikes and in online games it's really noticeable.

I am on a wired connection and my brother also is getting similar ping spikes. For the most part the ping is fine but it jumps to 300-500 randomly, can someone help me?

Re: Really big ping spikes

I've also started to have ping trouble after 2 years having Plus Net fibre. I'm on a wireless connection (approx 4 meters from the router) my normal ms is about 14ms but I'm getting ping spikes every 10 seconds. My download speeds are fine, as are my upload speed. Plus Net tech support have said there is no problem.

Below is the ping results.

Re: Really big ping spikes

@alxhel

Do you get the same ping spikes on a wired connection? I've also got a feeling that google started limiting ICMP responses, so if you can try the same ping to a different address that would be good.

@Smeagol

Anything else happening on your local network when the ping spikes occur?

Re: Really big ping spikes

I've noticed that it's usually worse during evenings, and that they happen less during the morning.

Re: Really big ping spikes

@Chris

I've tried again on Wireless to using Facebook as the ping site and it's still getting a similar pattern of spikes.

Just tried an wired connection and initially I received a no response result for the first time, but just tried again and it appears I'm getting 11ms on most results.

Any ideas what could be cause the spikes on the WiFi? Since I've not had any issues whatsoever in the past 2 years with it (the PC has remained the same and is in the same location). Any way to check/fix the issue?

If wired is my only viable option what's you're thoughts on the plug socket extenders? As running an ether net cable across my landing into my study is not something that will be received well by my other half.
