Random Reconnections

Newly connected service as of 12th July, I'm monitoring the logs closely and can see that the line randomly reconnects. The first one was after 2 days of service and the one below after 3 days. I didn't think this was normal with VDSL for the first 10 days of service as can be seen with ADSL and DLM... I realise I've got a great line rate and hope this isn't the beginning of a reduction in rate!

Any ideas on what's doing this?

Cheers

Re: Random Reconnections

Hi geforce,

I have checked your line connection through a test and your line has been stable and not had any drops today but this could possibly be a router issue. Can you just run through these checks for me please as they can help https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/connection-troubleshooting/

Re: Random Reconnections

Hi Ben,

No noise on line, all plugged in correctly, using a SSFP Infinity Master Socket so no filter (direct connection to RJ-11 port) and this is using the Plusnet Hub one as the logs suggest. No other devices connected to any sockets in house.

The reconnection is immediate from what I can tell.

Re: Random Reconnections

Why is the Hub One sending 'PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]' to terminate the connection in the first place?

Re: Random Reconnections

i'll chime in... i've lived in this property for 2 years now, been with plusnet since i moved in, they had me using a modem and technicolor router and it would drop out randomly 1-3 times a day, nothing i was doing triggered it, it would just go pop and the router would drop then re-establish a connection...

so obviously i complained about it, had numerous line tests done that showed the disconnects, but as it wasn't 4 times a day (coincidence?) the "supplier" wouldn't treat it as a fault, but what plusnet did do was send me a router that was supposed to be a new phillips one, but turned out to be the same router i was already using and experiencing drops with... the new one also dropped at the same random rate

i re-contracted not too long ago and got sent a spanking new "hub one", i thought i'd see the end of the disconnections but it's still happening with the same message in the event log as you're getting

(1634188.180000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]

that's it, no explanation

Re: Random Reconnections

Cheers, I was afraid this would be the case and from looking online there is a hell of a lot of chatter on a number of different forums about this exact issue. It was first raised years ago so by now I want hoping to at least find an explanation. Surely somebody from BT/Openreach or the Hub team should have an explanation of why the Hub terminates the connection. Most posts refer to the Hub, I'll likely just replace it with a non-BT box as the Hub One is essentially just the BT Home Hub 5. Pretty hopeful the issue will go away with better hardware that doesn't require constant TR-069 check-ins or have some BT specific weirdness to it...

It happened again today but after 3.5 days...

Re: Random Reconnections

not convinced it is the hubs or routers, seems to be a problem with the infrastructure itself... but since i'm no techy i can't even begin to guess where the problem really lies

Re: Random Reconnections

Here's the GEA line test results: https://community.plus.net/t5/Fibre-Broadband/GEA-Line-Test-Request/m-p/1353673#M42669

Witnessed 2-3 more reconnections within the last two days... I'm likely to try new hardware unless PN team or somebody else on here recommends something else
