Puzzled about different IP address?

When I check my IP address it says I am on 143.159.xxx.xxx, but when I check with plusnet it says that I am on 172.17.xxx.xxx and that I am not connected to the internet!  I must be connected or I would not be able to send this information. Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it. Thanks.

How are you checking with Plusnet?

Are you looking at the Plusnet router as some versions do not reported the correct external IP address but this does not stop the router working. It is a display bug, the router knows the real external IP address and uses that.

Many routers display the IP addresses for each end of the PPP connection, your end being the 143.159.xxx.xxx address, and 172.17.xxx.xxx being the other end.
