My fibre is absolutely abysmal tonight, is it just me (stockport area) or everyone? i've restarted router etc but its shockingly laggy, websites taking even longer to load than the usual slowness.

Re: Problems tonight?

Hi @chriscooney,

Thanks for getting in touch.

I'm sorry to hear that and apologise for the frustration.

There's no issues in your area that we're aware of, so I'd advise you to please first confirm that your landline has a dial tone. If so, I would also confirm that the issue you're experiencing affects both wired connections or just those on Wi-Fi.

If it's just Wi-Fi, please can you run through the troubleshooting steps below:

Wi-Fi troubleshooting: https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/connection-troubleshooting/

Connect to the test socket: https://community.plus.net/t5/Library/Testing-From-The-Master-Socket/ba-p/1322242

If the problem persists, feel free to send me your username by private message so I can check the connection from this side and see what's going on.

Thanks - Tahir

Re: Problems tonight?

Hi Tahir, thanks for getting back to me. I feel like my recent problems are the culmination of another issue... quite frequently between 9 and 10pm i've been getting disconnected for 5 mins before it eventually comes back on, always in the same time bracket.

Anyway to answer your questions, connectivity last night was poor over WiFi and ethernet, i will send you my username now in DM.

Thanks

Re: Problems tonight?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for getting back to me.

From what you're saying it sounds like you have a regular pattern of interference so this is likely to be something local, particularly given the timings. You haven't mentioned whether it was Wi-Fi or wired connections that were suffering last night.

I've run a diagnostic test on the line and this is showing an excellent downstream speed of 76.2 Mbps and 14.1 Mbps upstream, this is higher than your local average for the landline. Traffic is not showing any impairment or interference on the copper line itself. I have also not seen any evidence of the connection dropping, this confirms it is likely to be a local issue.

Please try some troubleshooting and also try connecting via the test socket:

Wi-Fi troubleshooting: http://goo.gl/p2tpvL

Connect to the test socket: https://community.plus.net/t5/Library/Testing-From-The-Master-Socket/ba-p/1322242

Wi-Fi interference is caused by any strong electrical signal. Common residential causes include Nest light bulbs, fluorescent and LED lighting, Christmas lights, microwaves, other Wi-Fi routers.

If you have any lighting near the router or in the house try switching it off temporarily to see whether you can establish a pattern.

If you have  WI-Fi router causing interference then a good Wi-Fi analyser app will allow you to measure which channels nearby Wi-Fi is being broadcast on. You can follow this Community forum post to decide if you want to make adjustments on your router to change the channel:

Changing the router channel (to avoid interference from other routers on the same channel in your area): https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Blogs/How-to-boost-your-wi-fi/ba-p/1450193

I trust this allows you to find a solution that works, however let me know if you need anything further.

Thanks - LF
