Pro Add On - £5.00 per month

Hi all,

I have been with Plusnet for just 3 weeks now, and everything seems great.

I sync nicely at the full 80 down and 20 up, great!.

I noticed the 'Pro Add On' today, so I added it.

It doesn't seem to make a huge difference...

Is it worth having, or just a waste of time - and money.

The Pro-Addon prioritises time sensitive traffic like Skype calls, VPN access and gaming within your home network over less time sensitive traffic like streaming, so it's generally just useful if you're saturating your connection, although with a line speed of 80mbps that'd be pretty difficult to do (but not impossible).

Personally if your connection works fine without it and you don't notice much of a difference with it on, I'd take it off.

Hi, thanks for the reply Gandalf. I did search the forums before posting, and some people implied the Pro addon is no longer needed as Plusnet don't agressivley packet shape traffic. Is this true? Or is traffic still prioritised by type as mentioned in that link you posted:

Thanks for getting back to me @graticus 

We switched off traffic prioritisation for all unlimited residential packages a few years ago, but by applying the Pro-Addon this will basically add traffic prioritisation upon request.

@graticus The Pro Add on will not really do anything useful on a full speed FTTC line. It is more of a legacy product when Plusnet did traffic shaping and speeds were generally lower, i.e. ADSL speeds.

I would not bother with it, and no way is it worth £5 a month.😮
