Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

Has anyone ever seen where the sync speed is higher than the estimated (rather than the other way around which you see a lot of)?

Lots of answers to the OP, but not specifically to that.  Yes: I have an estimate of 45-66 and had a speed just under 70 on BT.

Currently lower (58) as I have just moved to Plusnet and think there was a DLM reset or ? on a max data rate of 70.  I hope it will increase in a few days.  (I know there is still argument about this, but evidence does seem to support the settling in theory)

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

Hi @sjptd, as @Jubby mentioned, based on experience it is better to wait until after the stabilisation period before we start raising it.

Let us know how it is in a few days.

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

My BT's max speed available on their checker is 48.9.

Here is what I get 12 days in on a new PlusNet connection.( I have vectoring on my line)

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

@SammyM  I think Xup was just showing us how lucky he is to have a very good sync speed way above the checker estimate, probably because of vectoring being enabled. It was his first post in this thread.

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

^^^ Yes just showing that you can get more than the BT checker shows.

@SammyM  since you have done a GEA test  :), Can I ask  why the test shows I am on a 10/55 product profile ….when I am paying for a 20/80 service !.

Can this be sorted please :).

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

@TheMightyAJ  Thanks for that, to be fair here I'm not being restricted to those speeds (10/55)

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

@Xup Wow at that speed for the distance! Your Attenuation is higher than mine at 22.3 too!
How do you know you have vectoring? Is it something that is automatically applied?

But yeah, managed 62mb with Sky, so happy with anything 55mb+ stable for now Smiley

@LaurenB seeing as you did a GEA test, can I see the results please?

Thanks!

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

@Xup I must admit I missed that profile info on your GEA test. This is an issue I have repeatedly brought up on this forum but it has been totally ignored by PlusNet staff.  You are obviously not on a 55Mbps downstream profile. Have a look at the time stamp below the profile name row. It is out of date .. the 16th of August is nearly 2 weeks ago and your sync speed has changed since then and your line is not banded at that speed. I would be interested to know what TheMightyAJ put in the ticket he raised. I would guess nothing sensible or relevant to the situation.Wink

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

Not 100% on this but as far as I know.

You need to be on an Huawei cab.

You need to be on a BDUK funded cab. (I'm in a rural area, 4k from the exchange 800 from the cab)

If you can telnet into your router use the command

"adsl info --vectoring" ...............without the ""

You are looking for a vectoring state of 1 to be fully working.

Guess not! (Changed from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.0.1) - Using a BT HH 6A.

@RealAleMadrid

Good spot, that date was a day before I ported over to PlusNet on the17th, from BT on a 55/10 product.

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

Today's update after an automated re-sync at the same time as previous re-sync, 8:20am. (When on Sky, was around 1am)

0 Days, 0 Hours 8 Minutes 40 Seconds

6.64 Mbps / 52.79 Mbps

6642 / 53853

6.2 dB / 4.1 dB

G_993_2_ANNEX_B

Getting there, next step in 2 days time should be 3db down hopefully. I wonder why the upload SNR hasn't changed, dropped from 7.1 to 6.6 on a 6db SNR though. Is it handled separately by the DLSM at a later point if at all? As in if it hasn't done it by now, it won't do it at all?

Need to read more into G.INP / Vectoring that @Xup has but not sure how to tell if it has been applied to the line, is there any way to force it?

Regards,

Aaron

Re: Potential Speed - Migrating Customer

@feeps, You cant really force it as it has to be available in the cabinet you are connected to, seems only BDUK funded cabs have it to increase the people who can reach the superfast target on long lines.

You can still improve your connection and increase your attainable speeds with little tweaks.

I gained 4Mb by changing from the BT smart hub to the Billion 8800NL. (the white R1 model)

Gained just over 1Mb by swapping out the DSL cable for one of the Tandy higher quality ones.(keep it short as possible

and away from power cables)
