Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

Hi all,so recently i changed over to PN from BT (service started on wednesday) my speeds with Bt were hitting 58Mbps constantly, sometimes upto 61. i signed up with PN as they offered the same speeds but for alot less ££ .since the change over only twice has my speed been over 50, currently the most im getting is 8Mbps 😕

recent results off speedtest.net

I have had a replacement router already as chat support thought it could be a faulty one,new one has made no difference whatsoever. i have a support ticket open also : Question #134300491 .

It's driving me crazy as i do alot of work online for various projects for OU and Indie game development, any thoughts on what i can do?

Re: Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

Totally agree, I'm fumming with PN, less than a month and I'm getting between 2-4mb from the hrs of 9-11pm,then after that 22-32mb if I'm lucky from midnight, which is pointless as I go to bed soon after. Really regretting joining, plus I've try 6 times to get through at 45 minutes on the hold music tone, just not to get through, however if you choose to leave option you get put through straight away, then get told a pack of lies ie we will push u to front of the queue, only to hanging on to thin airy for a further 30 minutes, by thus time I just cba to carry on!!!!!! Totally poor customer service

@birchy0891

Welcome to the forum.

As Plusnet allows you to use any modem/router, why not use the ones you had for BT and see if that makes any difference to your speeds?

Re: Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

Are you testing your speeds over a wired or wireless connection? Do the slowdowns occur at specific times of the day?

Re: Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

Interesting.  I did pretty much did the same thing at the beginning of the year.  Switched from BT to PN.  I Have not been monitoring my speeds all the time.  I am sure the speeds at the beginning were OK and just as good as the BT services.

Your Upstream Speed is faster than the Downstream a lot of the time. It should just not be like that.

My quoted Rate when i took out PN was 59-77Mbps.  I am now getting 20Mbps, that is 33% of what that promised

I ran a speediest just know and I get 15.9 Mbps DOWN, 17.5 Mbps UP.

If I check the Troubleshooting log from the PlusNet router. Down Rate=48966Kbps, Up Rate=19649Kbps, SNR Margin Down=12.0dB, Up=6.0dB.

Re: Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

I use a Draytek Vigor2850Vn its Fantastic.  Switching back to the PlusNet Router makes no difference.  Still the same throughput on the DownStream.

Maybe there is a more serious problem with the PN Network?

Re: Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

looking at the BTW profile it's correct so there isn't a Line / cab issue causing the lower speed, have you checked what your plusnet profile is set to you can find it here under "current line Speed"  https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

It should be the same as the BTW profile, if it's not then it needs adjusting, but as the speed drops to stupid levels at peek times i fear you could also be suffering with congestion as a fair few seem to be these days mostly those on the new network, i'm not sure if your on that or not but one of the Plusnet care team should be able to tell you should they see and respond to this thread again.

Re: Poor speeds - Unlimited Fibre Extra

Wow big problem there looks like the issue is now line / cab related as the BTW IP profile which is the speed your getting from the fibre cab is now at 4Mb, you need to get a fault raised ASAP if you haven't already you can do so here
