Re: Plusnet profile update?

would you suggest I reboot router after disconnecting the sky box and again after the alarm to see if either of them are interferring with signal

Re: Plusnet profile update?

That's improved the downstream somewhat and it's now much closer to the low range of the estimate. The upstream still has a major issue though, the noise margin is much too high indicating that the DSLAM has increased it to cope with noise. I'd still go ahead and disconnect the sky box and alarm and see what happens to the stats.

I don't like the fact that the router rebooted itself though.

Probably best not to reboot the router too often for a while now , it might be seen as instability. Lets just see what if anything happens to the noise margins when they're disconnected

Re: Plusnet profile update?

That's disappointing, no real change so it doesn't look like sky or the alarm are the problem.

Might be best to leave it alone for a day or so to see if the DSLAM will reduce the noise margin on the upstream. Then check again at the test socket, if that's still showing better speeds then a VDSL plate and new CAT5 extension may be the option.

I suppose it's possible that it may actually be the plug connector on the removeable faceplate...

Re: Plusnet profile update?

Had 2 further spontaneous reboots from router. Is that plusnet or just the router misbehaving?

Re: Plusnet profile update?

Is the router actually rebooting or is it just resynching ? If it's rebooting then it sounds like it's faulty

Re: Plusnet profile update?

it is disconnecting from internet but still shows the amount of data transferred so you are probably right in saying resyncing. I presume that is normal

Re: Plusnet profile update?

Yes, I hadn't noticed the data transferred wasn't being reset, that confirms it's just resynching. You've obviously still got some line issues. I think perhaps you may have to go with your original plan of new extension wiring to a vdsl filtered faceplate

is it worth waiting for a few days to see if things improve?

Re: Plusnet profile update?

Fitted vdsl faceplate and ran cable to router. Guess I now have to wait for plusnet to notice and update line speed

Re: Plusnet profile update?

Fix

That's much better, close to the bottom of the estimates but liveable with using an extension I guess. Run the BT speedtest http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and after the basic speedtest do the 'further diagnostics' and check what the IP Profile says. If that's much higher than the PN line speed then try the chat to ask for the PN line speed to be changed to match the BT profile or wait for one of the PN help team to spot this thread and hopefully change it
