Re: Plusnet Hub Zero 2704n review

well for a review its meh  Wink
also incorrect they say you can mount it on a wall  Cheesy Cheesy when it comes out of the box Its IMPOSSIBLE to wall mount with the holes provided , the cables will not allow it .
you actually need to manufacture a bracket yourself to make it wall mountable , i know i did it  Wink

Re: Plusnet Hub Zero 2704n review

If you are just a normal user who plugs it in,  and browses Facebook and the likes on your PC or ipad then it's fine.
If like me you have multiple devices on wifi, kids on Netflix,  wife on PS4 paying online and running media servers from main pc, then avoid this like the plague. For me it keep kept dropping wifi and the signal was really bad, I mean really bad.  Lost 75 percent of sign over old plusnet ADSL router sited in same position.
They should stop giving this altogether and offer a far better one.  Something that is a bit more reliable.

Actually, in specifications box it says: Wall mountable: No, so they agree with what you said.
The opening of the review is rather damning:

"BT-owned Plusnet is one of the cheaper ISPs out there, and with such low contract prices, you might feel the company could be excused for providing a less than optimal free router. Even with this in mind it’s difficult not to come away from its new Hub Zero 2704n router without feeling rather disappointed."

Discussed at length in a much earlier thread - even with angle connectors you still need a hole dug in the wall or a thick standoff

Re: Plusnet Hub Zero 2704n review

Yes and you can't insert them while it is attached to the wall as there is only 11mm total clearance from the face of the J45 connector to the wall and those are about 30mm deep before inserting and even if you insert them first it would be an extremely tight fit

Re: Plusnet Hub Zero 2704n review

@rongtw - would it be worth trying a twisted pair RJ11 to RJ11 patch cable (top socket on master socket to modem) instead of the flat one shown in the picture? Might make no difference but given how close that cable is to a lot of other cabling, it might be worth a punt.

Re: Plusnet Hub Zero 2704n review

Ah ok rongtw. Out of curiosity, do you have a twisted pair RJ11 patch cable going into your DSL AC68U from the master socket?

Re: Plusnet Hub Zero 2704n review

A twisted pair RJ11 patch cable is less prone to picking up noise. It is one of these things where it may or may not make a difference, but for a few pounds, I think it is worthwhile. People spend a lot of time trying to eek out all the speed they can, looking at modem chipsets, signal to noise ratios and the like, so I figure what harm does it do to add a good quality cable into the mix.
Just a thought.
