Plusnet Hub One WiFi speed drops

I have PlusNet Hub One router.  It runs at 866.7 Mbps but from time to time drops to 144 Mbps

When this happens the only way I have found to get back to 866.7 Mbps is to reboot it by switching it off and then back on. Not convenient.

My PC has Killer Wireless n/a/ac 1535

Advice appreciated please.

Hi there,

I'm not sure I follow you. Can you run a speedtest for me at www.speedtest.btwholesale.com?

Cheers,

@Gandalf i think he means his WiFi http://www.killernetworking.com/products/killer-wireless-ac-1535

Supposed to be rather good , but of course it still depends if you have a decent router Thumbs_Up

Re: Plusnet Hub One WiFi speed drops

Since posting here my Network Connections (Right Click Windows Box bottom left hand corner of screen) has stayed at 866.7 Mbps.

I did the speedtest - Download Speed (Mbps) 64.54 Upload Speed (Mbps)16.6 Ping Latency (ms) 25.8

I would think these are acceptable figures?

So I when the Network Connection speed drops to 144 Mbps again, I will redo the speedtest again to see if that is a factor in slowing things down - i.e. is the loss of speed to do with my fibre connection or is it something else, maybe the router or my network card?

Re: Plusnet Hub One WiFi speed drops

@peterb diagnosing wireless issues can be difficult, and depends on who else is broadcasting WiFi locally, Have a look at the support pages to improve your performance, and download a WiFi analyser such as 'inSSIDer' to see who else is broadcasting, and change your cannels to the least used.

But also consider a better router if you want better WiFi! If you have invested in a decent Laptop, then why scrimp on the router.

Re: Plusnet Hub One WiFi speed drops

Changing from 866.7 Mbps to 144 Mbps is probably switching from ac to n wifi, 144 Mbps is full speed for 2-stream 20 MHz n wifi. The difficult bit is working out why it's changing - you could set it so that the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz networks have different names, then you can explicitly choose which band to connect on, ac wifi only uses the 5 GHz band.

Re: Plusnet Hub One WiFi speed drops

For a while has been running without problem but in the last two days speeds have dropped.  I noticed it because slow file transfers around network and when using VPN disconnections have occurred.  The only solution seems to be to re-boot the router.   Anyway here are some figures which might shed some light on what is happening.:

BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test

Broadband Speed Test Results

WiFi – Not Line of Sight to Router
Download (Mbps) 10.7
Upload (Mbps) 14.09
Ping Latency (Mbps) 29.38
Network Connection 144.4 Mbps

WiFi – Line of Sight to Router
Download (Mbps) 64.78
Upload (Mbps) 7.93
Ping Latency (Mbps) 43.00
Network Connection 144.4 Mbps

Ethernet
Download (Mbps) 64.57
Upload (Mbps) 16.85
Ping Latency (Mbps) 39.00
Network Connection 1Gb

After reboot of Router

WiFi – Not Line of Sight to Router
Download (Mbps) 64.22
Upload (Mbps) 16.19
Ping Latency (Mbps) 32.75
Network Connection 866.7 Mbps
