Plusnet FTTC -> TD-W9970 -> UDM

I am having issues trying to get this working. And there are some things I am clueless about, so hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Existing network: Plusnet hub one router - DHCP disabled, wifi disabled. ip address is 192.168.1.254 plugs into a switch which has a UDM  hanging off it it using LAN ports (not using WAN port) - entire network on 192.168.1.0/24

So I have a TPlink TD-W9970 which I have tested as a like for like plusnet one router replacement and it works fine.

What I want to do next is put the TD-W9970 into bridged mode and plug the WAN port into the UDM WAN port.

TD-W9970: Disabled DHCP, wifi disabled, configured in bridge mode, do I need VLAN 101 or just straight through ? IP address is 192.168.1.254.... this is the same address as my PlusNet router - should I change this to 192.168.0.254 and keep it on a separate network as 192.168.1.0/24 is my main internal network....

Connect WAN port on the TD-W9970 to the UDM WAN port.

configure the UDM WAN as PPOE with my plusnet account and password ... anything else here ?

For my internal DHCP network, do I then need to change the gateway address to the UDM ?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome....

Yes

Shouldn't matter if its in bridge mode as you cant get to it from your network. You would need to connect directly to one of its LAN ports to access it.

Connect WAN port on the TD-W9970 to the UDM WAN port.

Close, but no cigar! . You need to connect a LAN port on the 9970 to the UDM WAN port.

If the UDM is not the DHCP server, then yes

Advanced setup

If the UDM can support a WAN alias IP and static routes, then change the 9970 to 192.168.0.x and give the UDM a WAN alias in the same subnet, then you MIGHT be able access the 9970 via the internal network

@darkblak  In addition to the excellent instructions from@MisterW  I would configure the VLAN ID in the W9970, that's the usual method with an separate modem so that the PPPoE connection from the router is plain untagged ethernet.
