Packet loss + Latency

Hey guys,
The wind has got up again an my connection has decided to annoyingly intermittently play up.
I'm seeing "disconnects" in the way that when I'm browsing pages will refuse to load for about 30 seconds, or if I'm on IRC / playing a game it'll ping out, however according to the modem there was no dsl resync and PPP session never dropped according to my router.
However, I think something in causing a massive amount of errors, as every night this week my interleave depth has gone up, last week it was 500 something (sorry I can't remember the exact number, and today it is on 1543  Sad
I was hoping one of you guys could do whatever tests you can on my line to see if anything is showing up your end please?

Re: Packet loss + Latency

Thanks for that
Something does appear to have happened as Interleaving is set to high on your line.
"0.128M-60M Downstream, Interleaving High - 0.128M-19M Upstream, Error Protection Off"
Our tests aren't showing anything obvious from our end here although we can only view error counts for the past 15 minutes.
Do the errors increase at a certain time of day?

Re: Packet loss + Latency

Hi Matt,
Seems to be when the wind picks up, same as last time. However Openreach refuse to believe that could possibly be a cause, they never come when it's windy and the last guy said even if they did, they couldnt go up the pole to check connections when it's windy anyway so I;m kind of stuck >_<
The last guy who was here did trace back from the cab to the DP (pole) monitored at the test socket and saw drops, no drobs at the cab or the DP, the only thing they didn't replace was the drop wire, which is what I think could be the problem, as it's the only bit that's exposed and "moves about" during the wind. Also AFAIK it hasn't been changed since the properties were built in the 70's, but OR don't seem keen on replacing this for whatever reason Sad
Does what I'm saying make sense or sound possible in the slightest? We've ruled out most other things. The last guy said the next step would be a lift and shift but I don't think that'd help since there's no errors / drops at the cab port.
Thanks for reading Cheesy

Re: Packet loss + Latency

If you get a SFI engineer, they quite often replace the drop wire if they cannot find any faults elsewhere and they think it will improve performance.
When it's windy, do you notice any noise on the line (you can do the 17070 Quiet Line Test)?

Re: Packet loss + Latency

Hey Andy,
Yep it affects the line too, but we notice it more on the broadband cause that's in use all the time, I imagine if we used the landline more we'd notice it all the time on there too, but I have tried the quiet line test etc
I've managed to get a case opened with OR about the crappy quality of the ali lines in my street which they are apparently looking into, and they've given me a reference number which I have no way to check up on >_<
