Packet Loss and disconnects.

Getting big lag and disconnects issues. Sometimes when gaming, my game just "freezes" for 10-30 sec and then lets go (me usually dead by that time) sometimes it does full disconnect. Raised few tickets, but nothing showed any faults on the line. Sometimes getting buffering issues when watching twitch streams ( works ok on youtube and amazon prime so). thats the game i am having issues with:

http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Servers

p.s: Router event log wire LAN section getting those strange mgs:

dunno if it is related.

p.s2: When those issues first start to occur had new router sent to me, but it didn't address it. Can swap it back if need be.

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Hi @roadwish, thanks for your post and welcome to our Community.

I've had a check of the connection and there definitely seems to be something out of place somewhere as I'm able to see a few drops over the last few days ,although our tests aren't picking up exactly what's causing the issue so we will have to do some troubleshooting to start ruling things out.

I'd recommend starting with basic checks here.

And if that doesn't help the next thing would be to rule your internal wiring out by plugging the connection into your test socket which is under the faceplate of your master socket and seeing if the drops stop. This rules out internal wiring, face plates and extension sockets as being the cause. How to locate the test socket and set your connection into it can be found here.

Of course, judging by the knowledge shown in your post, you may have already tried the above so if that is the case please let me know.

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

How is your device connected - direct ethernet or via powerline adapters?

Have you tried another ethernet?

What happens if you move to port 4 on the rear of the hub (as 1, 2 and 3 appear to be in use)?

Reason for asking, some of the drops are 9 seconds or multiples thereof.

I could be wrong, but this might not be actually down to the hub and could be cable or device related...?

For example, I've tweaked your first post to this:

22:12:47, 22 Feb. (11807.000000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:12:38, 22 Feb. (11798.000000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 9 seconds)

18:56:33, 22 Feb. ( 33.290000) Wire Lan Port 2 up
(what's in ethernet port 2?)

18:56:33, 22 Feb. ( 33.290000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
(did you switch the router off and on at this point as no port 1 down showing?)

17:06:13, 22 Feb. (95357.430000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
17:05:52, 22 Feb. (95336.430000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 21 secs)

16:05:18, 22 Feb. (91702.380000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
16:05:06, 22 Feb. (91690.380000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 12 secs)

16:02:57, 22 Feb. (91561.380000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
16:02:48, 22 Feb. (91552.360000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 9 secs)

14:17:27, 22 Feb. (85235.060000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
14:17:18, 22 Feb. (85226.060000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 9 secs)

14:14:57, 22 Feb. (85085.070000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
14:14:48, 22 Feb. (85076.040000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 9 secs)

14:14:45, 22 Feb. (85073.050000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
14:14:36, 22 Feb. (85063.790000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(dropped for 9 secs)

11:47:06, 22 Feb. (76213.730000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
11:46:48, 22 Feb. (76195.720000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(18 secs (2x9))

11:46:45, 22 Feb. (76192.720000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
11:46:27, 22 Feb. (76174.720000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(18 secs (2x9))

10:55:14, 22 Feb. (73102.250000) Wire Lan Port 3 down
10:55:08, 22 Feb. (73096.250000) Wire Lan Port 3 up
(whats on port 3 - 6 sec drop)

08:46:18, 22 Feb. (65366.560000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
08:46:09, 22 Feb. (65357.560000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(9sec drop)

07:14:30, 22 Feb. (59858.500000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
07:14:12, 22 Feb. (59840.500000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
(18 (2x9))

03:55:06, 22 Feb. (47894.260000) Wire Lan Port 3 down
03:55:00, 22 Feb. (47888.260000) Wire Lan Port 3 up

00:29:27, 22 Feb. (35554.760000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
00:29:18, 22 Feb. (35545.760000) Wire Lan Port 1 down

(my maths could be out a tad, but there are appears to be a pattern in most of the above.....?)

edit. Although it's possible, it's also doubtful 2 PNH1s are faulty.

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

my pc directly , my cousin's through powerline>switch>pc - both have same problem.

tried switching ethernet, cables,ports etc.

port2 - powerline adapter

port3 - android tv box

"

18:56:33, 22 Feb. ( 33.290000) Wire Lan Port 2 up
(what's in ethernet port 2?)

18:56:33, 22 Feb. ( 33.290000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
(did you switch the router off and on at this point as no port 1 down showing?)" - most likely router restart.

well spotted about 9 or 6 sec, it does look like a pattern.

21:56:04, 23 Feb. (97201.220000) Wire Lan Port 3 down
21:55:49, 23 Feb. (97186.030000) Wire Lan Port 3 up

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Hi @roadwish

Just a quick question, is it only whilst playing one specific game that you notice these issues, or do you have issues performing general actions and browsing?

Thanks,

MoR

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Thanks for clarifying Smiley

I'm a bit baffled tbh, if the router was at fault then I'd expect all devices to drop too (possibly with similar timings).

So you're on port 1 and have issues*

Your cousin on port 2 via PLA and have issues**

Android TV on port 3***

*If you jump to port 4, does it still drop?

**If the router was dropping at it's end then I'd expect to see multiple reports of port 2 dropping in and out, but it isn't so is this (as MoR appears to be heading?) game specific..... or something else.

***The events surrounding port 3 could be simply the android box in standby doing a routine 'check I'm connected'. If you are able to, leave this on, playing anything, for several hours for example, does the hub events show this dropping whilst in use?

Something else to check out is whether or not you both have issues with the SAME game at the SAME time.....?

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

wot the only online game i play atm, but problems are noticeable in online streams and origin game launcher ( starts changing my status as offline). It is actually 2 problems: one is just "normal" disconnects, the other (dunno if it is related) packet loss(lag) where it doesn't show computer is disconnected or getting kicked from game server. In teamspeak for example i wouldn't be disconnected from server, but wouldn't hear what is being said or what i am saying ( for the same 10-30 sec).

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Changing to port4 doesn't change anything. And yes we both have the SAME issue at the SAME time and in the Same game (wot) not sure we been connected to the same server at that moment.

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Sometimes getting buffering issues when watching twitch streams ( works ok on youtube and amazon prime so)

I've been thinking about this (and my own connection dropping, but that's not for this thread ;)) and I'm guessing Twitch are live streams - which with the wire lan down I'd expect you to see the stream cut out

As for YT, I'm guessing this is not live - and thus the video 'buffers up' so you don't notice the drop (thus buffering)

Never used twitch or AP so can't really got into great detail on those:(

Are you on a multi screen set-up, one on WoT and the other streaming (twitch/YT/AP) at the same time?

I still don't think this is hub related, it's just proving it one way or the other......

Changing to port4 doesn't change anything. And yes we both have the SAME issue at the SAME time and in the Same game

As it's the same on any port, again this sort of confirms this isn't a hub related issue....?

Are there any others seeing this too - might be worth posting on WoT forums too - http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

@roadwish - The question for me is does this issue this persist if you remove your cousin’s machine from your network by removing the Powerline cable from its port?

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Some of those, which if you're still in port 1, indicate long connection times to the router

11:56:59, 28 Feb. (493242.240000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:02:06, 28 Feb. (529549.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down

(in time order, descending this time, rather than how the hub presents them)

So your PC was up for over 10 hours without a drop - were you on WoT or something else?

One (exactly how the hub shows them) now shows 3 seconds

22:02:30, 28 Feb. (529573.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:02:27, 28 Feb. (529570.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up

However, my laptop, that was connected via port 4, was 'asleep' during this time, and also shows 3 seconds, so it kinda looks like this is normal for both of us (unless you were gaming at this time

00:19:12, 22 Feb. (15477.400000) Wire Lan Port 4 up
00:19:09, 22 Feb. (15474.400000) Wire Lan Port 4 down

You then appear to have batches of 3 secs

22:05:06, 28 Feb. (529729.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:05:03, 28 Feb. (529726.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:04:45, 28 Feb. (529708.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:04:42, 28 Feb. (529705.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:03:54, 28 Feb. (529657.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:03:51, 28 Feb. (529654.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up

(which looks like your PC was 'sleeping' during this time?

and so on

22:07:42, 28 Feb. (529885.820000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:07:39, 28 Feb. (529882.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:07:21, 28 Feb. (529864.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:07:18, 28 Feb. (529861.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:07:00, 28 Feb. (529843.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:06:57, 28 Feb. (529840.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up
22:06:39, 28 Feb. (529822.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 down
22:06:36, 28 Feb. (529819.810000) Wire Lan Port 1 up

The rest of those events (although I've only skimmed through them) that you've given continue to show what I'd now term (based on yours and mine) to be normal events of a device sleeping, yet physically connected to the router via ethernet.

Re: Packet Loss and disconnects.

Hi @roadwish

@Anonymous makes a very valid point here - could you possibly let us know?

Thanks,
