PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

2 days ago the PPP session on my router dropped in the early hours of the morning for about an hour, the line stayed in sync but ever since then i've only been getting 20mbit instead of the normal 40mbit, just got off the phone with tech support and they just fobbed me off with move the router when its been fine in that location since i moved here and the line is still syncing at nearly 50mbit.

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

Hi @nightstalk3r

Can I just clarify a few points with you, please?

Are you saying that your throughput speed has dropped to 20Mbps, but your router is in sync at 50Mbps?

I've ran a GEA test on your circuit and can see that the router is syncing at 48.8Mbps - this is within the 35-53Mbps Estimated Speed Range whihc our supplier has provided for your line.

Are you noticing poor throughput speeds over Wireless connections as apposed to Wired? If so, then the advice to move your router doesn't actually sound that bad if it's being moved away from sources of interference.

Kind Regards,

oR

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

Wired or wireless, speed tests show 20mbit throughput on every device.

Can you see what my line profile is set at as it seems you have removed the page that allowed me to check it myself.

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

@nightstalk3r

Your profile is;

Profile Name0.128M-80M Downstream, Interleaving Low - 0.128M-20M Upstream, Error Protection Off

Therefore no banding is in place, and your service is syncing well within your limits as stated above.

I would suggest trying the advice given previously, and also try connecting to your test socket and seeing if your throughput improves. How to locate the test socket and set your connection into it can be found here

Thanks,

MoR

Im on unlimited fibre, not unlimited fibre extra, that looks like the information for my previous address.

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

Good point, @nightstalk3r

You are syncing well above your up to 40 speeds as the router is reporting a 48.8Mbps sync speed.

You've been provisioned on an 80/20 profile rather than 40/10, however, I can see that you've been paying for the higher service as well, so you've not "lost out", as it were, on anything.

We can get you down to the 40/10 service if you like, but you will most likely notice a reduction in your speeds as you are currently syncing above the "up to" limit for that service.

Kind Regards,

MoR

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

I have never since i've been here got more than 40mbit throughput, and Unlimited Fibre was what was agreed when i renewed the contract, just went around and ran speedtests on all my devices wired and wireless, every single one came back as 19.9 download exactly, that's not interference, that's obvious banding somewhere.

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

Just used a different router in a different location connected to the test socket, still getting 20mbit on speedtests

Here's a couple speed test results including my speedtest.net history over the last month.

Re: PPP session dropped for an hour now stuck at 20mbit

As you can see from my speedtest's last month, i was never provisioned on 80/20 i was on 40/10 so i don't know what's going on with your system but its clearly not tracking the correct line if its saying its on an 80/20 profile.

If you press the "Further Diagnostics" button on the BTW speed test you will see what your profile is set to and if it is being restricted.

Have you tried a different browser?

What are you using to test?

Try Chrome, that works for me, Edge seems to work sometimes, others not for me.
