PN Current Line Speed

As far as I am aware that plusnet up to 38/2 get current line speed set at 40 Mb but why is plusnet up to 76/19 get current line speed set at 78 Mb. Doesn't make any sense at all. Should be set at 80 Mb.
My current line speed was set at 80 Mb for the last 6 months and now Plusnet set it at 78 Mb. What is going on? Why can't they just leave it alone. I have rang up tech support but they refused set at 80 Mb because it won't allow it. That's loads of rubbish, I seen my other friend's Plusnet current line speed at 80 Mb for a year now!
Getting fed up with this silly current line speed.
Before:  BT IP: 77.35 Mb & PN set at 80 Mb throughput speed 75.45 Mb Smiley
Now: BT IP: 77.35 Mb & PN set at 78 Mb throughput speed 73.45 Mb Angry

Re: PN Current Line Speed

As you very well know the current line speed is set from the IP profile as provided by BT and should match rounded down
Why yours isn't rounded down I don't know
Note that where G.INP is enabled the ratio of sync speed to IP profile appears to be 1.034

Re: PN Current Line Speed

Oldjim, I don't believed in rounded down. If BT IP Profile is always at 77.35 Mb then PN current line speed should be set it at 80 Mb by default. Anything below 77 Mb is rather silly! My sync rate is at 79999k/19999k for a long time! I am on G.INP enabled.

Re: PN Current Line Speed

Because all other isp's don't apply current line speed. They leave it uncapped speed limit and let BT IP do itself on it own.

Re: PN Current Line Speed

Oh gosh, you've lost around 2-1/2% of your throughput, are you paying full price for all your services?

Nobody on the current 38/2 tariff will get their Plusnet current line speed set to 40. I think the only people who get their Plusnet current line speed capped at 40 are those on the legacy 40/20 tariff whose actual line speed and BT IP profile are over 40, because their lines are operating on 80/20, with Plusnet limiting the download speed to 40.

It seems more like it's the vast majority of customers, apart from the aforementioned subset of 40/20 customers who could get more than 40, who are losing a 1 or 2 percent of their bandwidth, but Plusnet have found the magic amount of bandwidth that's small enough for most people to not notice or not want to make a fuss about.
