Re: Odd TBB test ?

Checkout me-ping, today I've had the fastest internet AnD the best Latency as well.

Nice to see yours is sloping along!

Here's mine.... mix 'n' match eh!

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Lol, so TBB "secret" tcp latency measure (not ping) doesn't always work well either 🙂

I found my old opera url, Nice upgrade from Plusnet there 🙂

Re: Odd TBB test ?

It's some kind of bottle neck somewhere, data collection, traffic shaping ?

Ditto Sad

Tried FF in safe mode, to rule out any extensions, themes or hardware acceleration.

Ethernet, BTw tester
Download Speed (Mbps): 10.34
Upload Speed (Mbps): 1.39
Ping Latency(ms): 165.50

Ethernet, TBB tester
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491003819878230555
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491006871871370355

Due to the other BTw speed test thread, I installed Opera late last night/early am.
(couldn't get Opera to run the BTw site, so tried with the TBB test - https://labs.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/ )

Opera - latency 38ms - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491124877510372655
IE 11 - latency 39ms - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491124960578149355
FF 52 - latency 96ms - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491125160279496455

Repeated
Opera - latency 46ms - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491125212467179755
IE 11 - latency 46ms - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491125257733701055
FF 52 - latency 125ms - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1491125300324013255

As I've tried to point out on this and that other thread, my speed can be below the lower speed estimate for my connection:

5. DSL uptime: 1 days, 14:12:50
6. Data rate: 2001 / 23456
7. Maximum data rate: 2486 / 23156
8. Noise margin: 7.5 / 6.3
9. Line attenuation: 32.2 / 27.5
10. Signal attenuation: 32.2 / 23.9

(lower estimate is 24.1Mb/s)

I'm looking at the single thread part of the test (Downstream) with iperf3.

I've used various bits of kit with the same results, so we can rule out equipment.

An explanation on this would be nice so I can move forward and back into my cave!

WHY ?

Re: Odd TBB test ?

If it's on - do you get the same with your QOS turned off?

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Yeah, same with traffic shaping off, bit faster/smoother test wise without the queues as expected!

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Hmm, it is strange. Your iperf test seems to show a sane amount of loss, though it's a shame debug doesn't show per second for -R like it will for upload.

I can sometimes get a bit of iperf3 ramp up from that host - but not like yours, more like 58, 60, 62, 62 ... till end at worst.

As Plusnet downstream QOS works for me, I only do upstream, and I've  never seen single threaded ramp up on TBB.

Re: Odd TBB test ?

how many retries do you get though - if any, either Up or Down ?

I would expect to have next to none.

This is a constant for me at any time of the day/night, tbh your the first person that has given a view from a good connection so thanks for that.

Re: Odd TBB test ?

@legume

Here is a graph of what my connection is like with QOS enabled using TBB as the monitor, take note of the big Orange spike which is a speed test with QOS off for a moment. just thought you might be interested
