Interesting stuff there legume
afaik that burst on my previous post is the only time it's been higher than 30Mbps
I used to use a non default Firefox, but due to my connection speed being quite low at times I've gone back to a default version of FF to see if my browser was the reason, but nothing significant was observed. Having said that, most of the TBB speed test results were carried out using IE11 with no other apps running.
During all of the tests on this thread, to my knowledge, nothing else was in use during these tests, unless I've posted that for example Youview was using OD content to load up my connection.
I've only posted results up using the same laptop, connected via ethernet, and would have thought that the results would have been similar throughout, but note what you've mentioned regarding CPU load etc.
I wasn't aware that the TBB alternative tester had been tweaked to smooth out the results, but at least my results using that tester now have a reason why they look better, even though they're low in speed.

Of course what I say doesn't mean there aren't problems for anyone, or that TBB speed test isn't helping show them - but I just don't always trust it. Here's one I just did, Linux with current seamonkey (sort of firefox)
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490356679624348855
Now I know that burst is impossible. Any speed test that uses TCP should really smooth a bit. As TCP delivers in order bytes and (usually) relies on drops to indicate congestion, there will be times when a a dropped packet gets re-transmitted causing many packets worth of bytes to suddenly "appear" as far as the testing app is concerned.
That effect probably isn't enough to account for the spike above - I guess it's my browser involved as well - but whatever it is, a speed test that reports the impossible isn't ideal.
As I said I have no issues with my connection, and Plusnet QOS is back for me. I do my own upstream.
Here's a recent TBB ping graph. The bump at 23:00 is a 3 gig multi thread origin PC BF4 update downloading, which maxed my line.
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ping/share-large/19c6f65343372179dff6ede60bcc3779-21-03-2017.png
Thanks Mav for rescuing my post - I wondered what happened there!

I get where your coming from
Anyway, same everything, but:
63Mbps x1 burst, but note the almost flat line at the beginning - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490359330640070455
Then another, but note the spikes - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490359407771058255
And one more - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490359474793115455
I would have thought that the same machine, same connection, and quick tests would have given similar results...

I called PN this am and they confirmed this too!!
Guess it's a small MSO as no service status pages show any updates 😕
fwiw, somebody from PN is going to call me back between 4pm and 7pm to see if it's back on. The call handler says that my speed sometimes being below the lower estimate could be related to this mso......
Time will tell I guess........
(For privacy reasons I've asked a mod to hide/delete my exchange information. Hope you understand ;))

@rongtw What gateway are you on to get that result?
I am guessing you would have had an outage when the joints were redone, and so would have gone onto a new gateway. It could be interesting to if it stays as it is.

I've just found a support ticket opened on behalf of you and Kelly, dated 24 March - https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=view_question&id=146611743
However, taken from that ticket:
Test Outcome | Pass |
Test Outcome Code | GTC_FTTC_SERVICE_0001 |
Description | GEA service test completed and no fault found but unable to check for customer equipment connected to modem. |
Main Fault Location | OK |
Sync Status | In Sync |
Downstream Speed | 24.9 Mbps |
Upstream Speed | 2.0 Mbps |
Appointment Required | N |
Fault Report Advised | N |
NTE Power Status | PowerOn |
Profile Rate: | 22378 | 2000 |
Test File Size: | 12310995 | 468635 |
File Transfer Average Throughput/Session: | 9740 | 1480 |
<my post town> vlans all look fine and performing well, only 1 issue logged against this vlan over the past 2 months and that was a NSC issue. MGALS from original estimate are been met, we have seen this come close to 30Mbps. Lowest sync over the past few weeks has been 23.1Mbps and highest seen is 24.8Mbps. Stability not an issue at all as well.
Fluctuating throughput been reported so DLM requested.
My lower estimate is 24.1Mbps but the Profile Rate (above, highlighted in bold) is 22.3Mbps, thus below the lower estimate, or am I missing something here? I have also provided lots of proof that my connection was lower than 24.1Mbps. To be honest I'm not sure what to make of the statement regarding the estimate being met..... I feel that I'm being made out to be a liar!! I have posted the 'evidence' up and these images are freely available via my forum gallery images
for reference, here's what it used to be - when it was 30.6Mbps
Anyway, now I've got that off my chest, here's some more erratic TBB results to ponder on
