@DS You seem to have little flurries of disconnections on your line.  Is that you?image14902697515457

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Thanks for replying Kelly Smiley

Nope, but I manually rebooted it once yesterday - https://community.plus.net/t5/Fibre-Broadband/Throughput-jitters-and-slows-to-circa-20Mbps-every-2-w... - prior to that I've not touched it for around 2 weeks.

As I mentioned on that thread, my speed is below your lower estimate!! Knuppel

If my connection drops, or I have to reboot the hub to regain decent browser loading pages, my hub always goes into disco mode regarding the lights before it eventually settles. It's always done this!!Cry

edit. @Kelly is that definitely the results for my connection?

The reason for asking is because, according to my records:

I carried out a full factory reset on 28/02/17

08:49:31, 28 Feb. ( 136.720000) PPPoE is up - Down Rate=23488Kbps, Up Rate=2001Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.1dB, Up=7.4dB

After my connection settled (with the lights going on and off, including the red BB light, I then tried another full factory reset:

08:53:37, 28 Feb. ( 123.970000) PPPoE is up - Down Rate=23401Kbps, Up Rate=2001Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.1dB, Up=7.3dB

Again the lights did their normal on and off, with the red BB light and then it settled. I then left the hub well alone until one of your colleagues carried out a data transfer speed test as my original one had been deleted by either your automated systems or human error

12:32:23, 06 Mar. (531634.540000) PPPoE is up - Down Rate=23401Kbps, Up Rate=2001Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.2dB, Up=7.1dB

Then I manually restarted the hub yesterday:

18:46:58, 22 Mar. ( 124.580000) PPPoE is up - Down Rate=24861Kbps, Up Rate=2001Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.1dB, Up=7.4dB

The times you've posted don't tally with the above router logsHuh

Ah, ignore me.  I was looking at the wrong account for those drops!

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Thanks again Kelly Smiley

(I've pinched the thumbs up off message #497 and popped in to your above reply)

So, I guess that's a good thing, but doesn't help me with the speed test results then.....

Or why my connection is, for most of the time, below your lower estimate

Hmm <insert a head scratching emoji>

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Steve Crookes has already requested some tests on your line to see if there is anything there.

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Great, thanks for letting me know!! Smiley

Do you know when this was done, or is due to be done?

Posting the following now as a comparison to previous and future TBB test results:

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490280213883687555

(A bit of poop fell out when I saw the burst speeds)

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490280405610290055

(And again)

Based on these results, I have to assume I've answered my own question regarding when something has been done.....? If that's the case, then getting graph results similar to my fellow peers when their connection is working fine would be great!

Re: Odd TBB test ?

It's not a standard test so could take a little while.  At the least, i'll pick it back up again when I'm back in next week, but Steve will hopefully get it back and look at it before then.

Re: Odd TBB test ?

@Kelly I can confirm all of those drops are of my doing. I see some strange testing against my modem I think. well unexplained latency but no packet/traffic output if that makes sense.

Changed over to my laptop again around the time of those drops, then trying to get a good path back to pingbox1.thinkbroadband.com for my RRD graphs.

Anyway... still the same issue exists....

Re: Odd TBB test ?

Speaking of odd

Even though I'm on a 40/2 connection, note the x1 d/l burst of 134.6Mbps!! - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490312116100928655

I've got no idea how it could even show it that fast and have no idea if this is a fault of the tester or something caused by PN or something of my making....

I still can't fathom out why my results using the default tester are always showing erratic spikes rather than a smooth graph like the majority of my fellow peers results show.

Repeated the test just prior to posting and the burst is normal now - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1490312857836206755

Re: Odd TBB test ?

I've found the new TBB speed test to be plain crazy sometimes WRT impossible bursts.

The Author has said that he deliberately didn't smooth as much as the old flash test, but it's more than that = what browser you use can make a difference and the state (CPU load/disk accesses/anti virus) of your test box also varies the results. On Linux I have an ancient opera I tested with once that just wacks the needle to max every time.  With my normal browser I do get a few crazy spikes more rarely - mostly it's just not as smooth as the old flash test.

SWMBOS win 10 laptop is all over the place with TBB due I guess to anti virus - even so it's a lot better sometimes than others.

Playing with iperf3, when limiting from hosts shown in this thread, the one second results may vary a bit over time, but the end result is OK. Not sure I would trust that test to assess my connection as it's a bit variable, the unlimited download is so far always max for me.

But then I have no issues with gaming or TBB showing too low.

Usertools fails to show my gateway.

going via 133.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk to bouygues.testdebit.info and TBB

and 129.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk to ping.online.net

I do wonder whether what part of the country = Plusnet to BTW connets/BTW level routing/svlans/local OR bandwidth makes peoples experience vary so much in ways that a traceroute will never show.
