Re: Odd TBB test ?

plusnets network has been up and down the last few weeks as they migrate to the 'new' network. I got around this by making sure I got an AG gateway, but these no longer seem to be available from this week, so I avoid Colindale and try to keep on South Bank. Even with that speed are all over the place at peak times over the last week, and today I have exactly the same issue with single threaded TBB tests as reported in the first post.

plusnet are not even acknowledging this issue with there network, but based on my experiences and posts in this forum there is a problem. But they are still asking people who are reporting these symptoms to check there wi-fi connections Roll_eyes

I shall look elsewhere when my contract up is next year.

Yes, I haven't tried to report it to the powers that be as I have zero confidence that it will be looked at. After all when I keep swapping I can get a gateway that is good for a while if I try hard enough.

Real shame is that every week I'm going to have to do that.

New year will probably bring about a change of ISP for me too. After nearly 8 years, this is the worst I've seen and I doubt it will improve as management are only interested in subscriber numbers. increasing profits and not spending on minor things like billing, support, network hardware, provisioning systems etc.

How many months did it take for the lost packets threads to be taken seriously?

@SpendLessTime But this is the best place to get a result from PN , Phone lines wait times Ticked_off and the chat thingy how do you send your TBB graph

Re: Odd TBB test ?

@rongtw

Hopefully, but with the speed tests are showing super speeds for the multiple threads. So it all looks rosy to "the suppliers".

So there is no way to log a fault as the BTW speed test results are multi threaded so always show fast. Hence no problem and no fault.

Also I know this fault isn't to do with my line, my equipment, my testing methodology but to do with the core Plusnet networks and do not feel like being messed about with engineer visits etc even if I could log this as a fault. Which I can't.

Re: Odd TBB test ?

I've personally been unable to replicate the observations in this thread but I'll refer it to the relevant bods to see if they can spot any issues/commonalities.

Have all the AG gateways been shut down now...

Almost. You won't be able to connect to one if you haven't already got a connection established.

@rongtw can you try http://speedof.me would be interesting to see if any of the tests there get up to speed and stay sustained. Can you run and click share and past the link in? Mine is on collindale pop,  looks like http://speedof.me/show.php?img=161215140920-998.png on TBB i get 1481810625570373755

Re: Odd TBB test ?

interesting! And is TBB still slow too? The graph looks pretty healty in that the latter tests have nice flat tops to them!

Most speed testers struggle to get accurate speed measurements and rely on getting a bit file, if the point of measurement there is data still buffered you can get dips and peaks that are a bit abnormal.

The aboutme one relies on html5 rather than flash as flash can be ... lets say less than efficient ... so either gets a fudge factor to boost speeds or is a little under reality.

The best test you can possibly do is Wireshark.... as that can capture the total traffic on the interface and show you the throughput, just in case some app is doing an update in the background that you dont know about, that could halve your throughput on a speedtest graph but wireshard will show the full amount

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCilpMZTXXk this is worth watching if you are getting some speed drops, see how you can correlate that with either other traffic on the PC or TCP errors killing performance.
