No speed increase when upgrading from Fibre to Fibre Extra

Some months ago I upgraded from Fibre to Fibre extra. From memory I was getting around 30M down originally and now I'm getting 35M down. BT is quoting up to 70Mb and all the line tests I've run are showing the connection is capable of 50Mb plus.

It feels like the line is capped in the 30M range.

Note sure what to do next. Images attached show existing connection quality and speed v what BT says the line should handle.

What are your sync speeds?

Speed tests can vary depending on how you do them and if other users or apps on your device are also using the internet. Are you testing from a wired connection, and is your router plugged into the test socket under the cover on your master socket?

It is a wired test but I have not taken the cover off the master socket to look for a test socket. Do you have an image of what I should be looking for?

I've taken a look under the cover. There is a socket but it does not match the router connector which is VDSL format.

Yep that is normal. Use a micro filter to connect the modem or Hub one lead to the phone socket.

OK, I've managed to telnet into the router and get the following VDSL stats (sse attached image). I haven't had to dip into the command line and telnet for 20-years. It brought back good memories.

Re: No speed increase when upgrading from Fibre to Fibre Extra

Sync speed from that screenshot shows 55 meg down and 19 meg up which looks right for the 80/20 package. The wired speed tests you are running are you using Powerline adaptors or Ethernet cable straight into the router?

Also what router are you using?

It looks like there is something on your network that may be causing a bottleneck.

Re: No speed increase when upgrading from Fibre to Fibre Extra

Just run another speed test and I'm now getting 55Mb. It's like someone has flicked a switch at Plusnet. I've never seen that before, was always 30 to 35.

Looks like the problem is fixed.

I'll keep an eye on things for a week or two and see if it falls back.

Thanks

Re: No speed increase when upgrading from Fibre to Fibre Extra

Was the current speed test done still in the master socket ?  if so the issue could have been with the faceplate and the filtering on that being faulty it does happen, if so might want to look into getting a replacement or keep it in the master socket if your happy to do so.

No, the test was done with the faceplate in position
