Newbie - broadband speed

Hi,

I moved to PN and my fibre was activated on 20th Feb, when I do a speedtest I dont seem to be getting the speeds I should be?

I have attached Router and DSL checker info (I think this is the correct info).

Can anyone tell me if I am correct?

Thanks.

Re: Newbie - broadband speed

Welcome to the forum.

BT says that with a good connection you should sync down between 24.7 and 16.5Mbps and up between 1.2 and 0.8 Mbps. Your router is reporting that you are actually in sync at 17.966Mbps down and 1.137 up. So there's no problem there.

What speed are you getting reported by speed test and is it wired or wireless? It could be that you have a wireless problem.

Welcome to the forum @mrsmo

I agree with much of what @Baldrick1 says above but I wondered why you thought that you were running slow. What speed you are actually seeing with a wired connection to your router? Try http://www.speedtest.net/

Re: Newbie - broadband speed

Thank you both for answering.

I have unlimited Fibre, speed upto 38mb, when I do a speed test I am getting about 16.50?

I possibly dont have the full grasp of the figures etc Embarrassed

My laptop is one of those skinny ones with no ethernet socket, so its unwired.

It was more curiosity, I have no problems downloading etc but when I see 38mb I thought I might get that?

Thanks for those results. I'm afraid that you won't get much better speed than you have now.

Re: Newbie - broadband speed

Fix

Hi there and welcome to the community forums.

As others have indicated it's unlikely you'll be able to achieve more speed due to the length of your line.

I've run tests down your line and everything is looking spot on within expectations.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
