New speeds for new customers?

I've just read about the upcoming change for existing customers on the 40/20 service, to 52/9.4 (55/10???).

Is anything going to happen for new fibre customers to the 38/1.9 service?

I suppose I'm asking: is the 52/9.4 only going to be available to existing customers who are lucky* enough to be on that original 40/20 speed? Or will the 38/1.9 change to that?

I'm struggling to justify the cost of moving from my ADSL to 80/20 Unlimited Extra, and the 52/9.4 would be enough and more affordable assuming the same pricing as the Unlimited. 38/1.9 isn't worth paying that extra for.

*I know losing 10Mbps upstream isn't 'lucky'.

Re: New speeds for new customers?

This has been puzzling me too, unless the fibre options are going to be three tiered at 80/20, 55/10, 40/2 I'd have to assume that 40/2 will all, slowly, be moved up to 55/10 in a similar roll out to ADSL Max -> ADSL2 upgrades were.

Maybe 40/20 is a smaller footprint of users to test out the regrades on which is why we're going first.

It could also be that as 40/20 is (i believe) an artificially throttled 80/20 service, regrading them first will save PN more money in the short term as their costs to wholesale will drop and then they can concentrate on the 40/2ers.

All, uninformed speculation of course, maybe we'll get a definitive answer in the morning.

Re: New speeds for new customers?

I'm on 40/20 and dsl checker only shows 35mb, so I kinda get around that on speedtest. So the 52mb is not going to benefit me, It's just a white flag to the price increase.

Re: New speeds for new customers?

Yes i have said this previously , PN are trying to make customers think they are getting something for FREE ,, You are getting extra download ?? In reality most will stay at their speed as is now , maybe a minor increase .

But the main thing most will see is a drop !! in upload speed

Re: New speeds for new customers?

There will be no changes to anybody on 40/10, though bear in mind it's a legacy package so any changes would lead to 40/2.

Read the OP incorrectly. There won't be any changes to anyone on 40/2 packages.

Yes but I'm supposed to be 40/20 and getting 5.  So what effect will I see?

Your product will change, though it's likely that you'll see the same speeds based on the standard of your connection.

Re: New speeds for new customers?

It's unlikely to make any change for you as you're not at the top end of either the upload or download speeds.

Then, will PN be offering the 52/9 to new customers as a package in its own right? Or, after August when all this happens (I think) - will the same two packages (40/2 and 80/20) still exist as they are, and only those on fibre?

I'm pressing the issue because the 52/9 would suit me... the 40/2 is useless for the upload speed and 80/20 is more than I can justify spending.

Since it looks like I do *need* to get some more speed, that means potentially looking elsewhere at 55/10-ish offers. That's a shame when I've been here for... so long I can't even remember.

Re: New speeds for new customers?

There are no plans to offer this to new customers right now, it's only changing for those on the older 40/20 product.

MattyC ?  Your product will change, though it's likely that you'll see the same speeds based on the standard of your connection

So am i correct in presuming that despite PN Hype of Ok we have given customers extra download speeds ,

The majority of customers in fact will only see a lowerd upload ?

Re: New speeds for new customers?

If the customer isn't going to see any change on the upload, it's likely they won't see much of a detriment on the download too in reality as their line may not be capable of seeing higher speeds than 10Mb/s on up if they can't get near the 40Mb/s on down.
