New line, new much higher speed!

Hello.

After an engineers visit to correct a noisy and unstable line, I have been switched to a new line and now all is fine. Thanks to PN for all their help.

Checking my new line speed with the BT Wholesale checker I see that my line is showing about 80mbps downspeed!! This is twice the maximum I was shown before. Can someone with PN check and see if that is accurate and acheivable as I would probably go for an upgrade to my package?

Many thanks again,

Re: New line, new much higher speed!

Hi @fred77, I'm glad to hear the engineer looks to have cleared everything up causing the noise on the line for you. Checking your connection from this side we are only seeing 38.7Mbps getting to the router and given your estimates for the line show as 32.4-45.4Mbps I'd advise  against upgrading to our higher broadband product as you wouldn't see a benefit with your speeds.

Estimates for your line can be checked here:

Re: New line, new much higher speed!

Thanks for your reply BD,

A couple of things.

My router reset today and reconnected at a slightly worse speed with the "up" db stat 7.2 and "down" 5.7db. Not bad as such  but it was the "up" figure that went much higher and seemed to be the problem before the engineer's visit. Hope it isn't happening again! Will keep an eye on it.

Second point. These are the stats from the BT Wholesale test. Still showing a huge increase in the down figure. I understand what you are saying but can you explain why BT's figure is so high? Also would the IP profile figure make an impact?Huh

Just asking!!

Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.

  Download Speed
  75.74 Mbps

0 Mbps 36.38 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 75.74 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 20 Mbps-36.38 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 36.38 Mbps

2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.

  Upload Speed
  6.84 Mbps

0 Mbps 10 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 6.84Mbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

Thanks for your interest and help.

Re: New line, new much higher speed!

I think BT Wholesale speed test could be faulty as I also get over rated speeds

Re: New line, new much higher speed!

The BT Wholesale speed test is borked on some browsers, it's just reported 773Mbps for me using Chrome under Windows 10 Funny

For clarity my synch speed is 220Mbps using G.fast.
