New line, Speeds slower than previous provider

Hi, guys.

over the past few years, I've been with Sky and TalkTalk and have been getting a solid 5.5-6.4mbps download (56 - 62mbits)

I today have been activated with Plusnet and am being told the maximum my line can receive is 49mbps. and I'm getting active (42mbps down - 8mbps up)

I fail to understand how providers offering the same package can differ so much with speed. I'm working from home and have a high internet consumption alongside average home internet devices.

to the point though, the speed isn't enough for me and I need more. am I missing a speed boost package or something that I need to get the full potential from my line with Plusnet?

Latest Speedtest: (only device on the network and using cat5)

Re: New line, Speeds slower than previous provider

@scottybuk Welcome to the forum.  🙂

Do you know whether with the previous providers it was LLU, where the ISP has its own equipment in the exchange?

Also, if you can post the results from

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

redacting personal info, some light may be shed.

Re: New line, Speeds slower than previous provider

Thank you for the warm welcome. I got the following information for you:

The premise/line is associated with exchange which is NOT part of current fibre priority programme.

The premise/line is associated with exchange where WLR is not withdrawn.

The premise/line is associated with exchange where SOADSL service is restricted.

If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service

In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.

@scottybuk  posting the results of the DSL Checker using your phone number rather than address would provide more useful information.

What you have posted does not match your earlier post.

Re: New line, Speeds slower than previous provider

This might not be very helpful, but looking at the BT wholesale checker, the thing leaping out at me is the "FTTP = available" bit. I'd be straight on the phone to Plusnet to cancel while you can during the cooling off period and get straight on to a provider who can hook you up to some 300 Mbps loveliness!

Re: New line, Speeds slower than previous provider

@timmys  not a very smart first post - Fibre on Demand is an expensive solution designed more for business. Think Thousands to have it installed!

@scottybuk Normally when you use the phone number for the DSL checker it reports current observed speeds and the details in the bridge tap section are filled in. Is this a recent install?

If so, it would be worth checking again in a day or two.

@timmys

If there was a provider to offer me 300mbps without costing me 3 figures a month id probably jump on it lol

Re: New line, Speeds slower than previous provider

@Mustrum - ah yeah - missed the "on Demand" bit. Consider me suitable admonished by your rather rude 2,318 post.
