New account problems

New account activated yesterday. Fibre broadband. Do I need to connect via the old open reach modem as the internet speed is slow and keeps dropping out for hours at a time . Blue light on modem all the time and done all the other checks including reset of modem etc . Had BT previously with no issues so it won’t be the line. Surprised plus net closed all weekend so I can’t speak to anyone about it
