New Router?

I have been having issues with the router supplied by Plusnet in that when I add in port forwarding for certain ports, it works for several hours and then stops. Edit the rule and save it, it works again. I have even tried the DMZ and get the same results. Plusnet say that they don't support port forwarding and that I would have to replace the router. I am looking at the TP link TD-W8968 does anyone have any experience of this, or can recommend an alternative router.

Re: New Router?

I assume you have the Plusnet Hub one router. I'm sure someone more familiar with it, than me, will help with port forwarding, which I'm sure can be made to work. In terms of an alternative the TD-8698 is only an ADSL modem/router , you need a VDSL capable one for fibre. The TP link equivalent with VDSL is the TD-W9970. However both of those are only single band wifi and 100Mbit network. To future proof you should perhaps be looking at dual band wifi and Gigabit networking

Re: New Router?

Probably the best list of VDSL compatible all-in-one 'routers' is the one on the Kitz.co.uk site.

Re: New Router?

The TD-8968 claims "Ethernet WAN (EWAN) offers another broadband connectivity option for connecting to Cable, VDSL or Fiber modems." There is already an openreach fibre modem so I just need a router.

Re: New Router?

Ah! I assumed that since you were new you had only just got Fibre and would have the Hub One ( and no modem ). You have the Plusnet hub zero then, that explains the port forwarding problems. Again, I don't have one but from what I've seen on here it's not too good at port forwarding.

You are correct the TD-8968 can work in Wireless router mode with an attached modem. From what I can see it's about £27 on Amazon . The 9970 ( for about £34 )  will also work in Wireless router mode with the modem but also gives you the option of dispensing with the modem.
