Re: New Install - Fibre 40/2

Yes we are only on 20CN. The BT engineer said to me that if the upload speed was increased then our speed would be increased as the loss is proportional to the starting value, I am getting the impression that this is wrong. Is there any way we can find our current sync speed as per ADSL modems?

If you have a Huawei modem, it's very easy to unlock to get this information, lots of info on the web on how to do it. Alternatively, run the BT Wholesale speed test, click "Further Diagnostics" and multiply the download IP profile by 1.033, that will give your sync speed. The upload profile is always reported as the maximum supported by the product, 2Mbps, 10Mbps or 20Mbps.

Re: New Install - Fibre 40/2

Not sure if this info will help anybody at all, but I thought it worth posting.
So the following graphs are of my profile before and after moving from 80/20 down to 40/20. April 1 2014 to the end of july (old profile) then 1 Aug to the start of Jan 2015 (new profile) upload and download speed tests provided by a samknows box. If anybody has the same dates they can provide of the same periods that would be even better proof that lowering the pfofile on a long line can only serve to make things better.
Imho.
Unless anybody can prove otherwise that is.

Re: New Install - Fibre 40/2

I have done another speed test and attached the results. To me it looks like the download speed could be limited by the profile. I really don't know what to do about the upload speed but I can't believe a change to 40/20 would mean a significant drop. Just to close out all options I think 40/20 is worth trying.

Re: New Install - Fibre 40/2

You are looking at the profile the wrong way round
It is set automatically at about 0.97 times the sync speed

Re: New Install - Fibre 40/2

Ok, so I need to unlock the modem to find out what my sync speed is?

Re: New Install - Fibre 40/2

Your sync speed is roughly 11042, I explained earlier how to calculate it. 40/20 would be of no benefit to the download and unlikely to for the upload as you are well below 2Mbps.
