Re: New Fibre installation

That's very likely congestion on the backhaul from the exchange, the evening slowness and good daytime speeds back up the theory. There's quite a bit of BT maintenance this week to increase capacity at exchanges and resolve several 'hot' VLANs. I'm just having a look to see if your exchange is reported as running hot at the moment.

Re: New Fibre installation

Right, one of the VLANs at the LANARK exchange is showing as amber. This means that it's not running ideally and usually gets upgraded within a few days of being spotted and reported. Our faults team should see this information too and can verify if this is the VLAN you're on.

Re: New Fibre installation

Hello There,
Is there any news on this? The faults team haven't contacted me.
I was getting 6 down, 15.5 up with a ping of 39 last night.
This morning I'm at a much more acceptable 37.5 / 17.5 / 29
Am I on the congested VLAN or do we need to look for another problem?
Thanks
Stephen

Re: New Fibre installation

I just heard from the faults team.
They want to send another OR engineer out.
Do they know about the congested VLAN?
Thanks

Hello Again,
Any update on this?
I gave the faults team my dates (today and yesterday) and haven't heard back.
Thanks

Re: New Fibre installation

Sorry I didn't get chance to reply yesterday. Unfortunately the dates you provided were too close, generally we need 48 hours in advance to be able to book a slot in and that still relies on it being available.
The next updates on the VLAN reports should be out early next week, so we can see if there is still congestion showing.

Re: New Fibre installation

OK Chris,
I haven't heard from the faults team - presumably they will contact me about this?
My download speed was 2.5Mb/s at around 10pm last night. Upload looked OK as usual.
I'm guessing that no work was carried out on the VLAN over the weekend?
Thanks
Stephen

Re: New Fibre installation

I presume that you're aware, but just to confirm that we have an appointment booked in for you on the 17th as an AM appointment.

Re: New Fibre installation

Yes I received a call from the faults team at 13:40 thanks.
Hopefully the engineer will get to the bottom of things on Saturday.

Re: New Fibre installation

Hopefully so.
But keep us posted because I'd like to hear whether this reaches a conclusion.

Re: New Fibre installation

The engineer arrived at 14.30, an hour and a half late.
He tested the line and could find no problems.
He called BT and they could also see no problems.
He told me that they believe the problem lies with Plus Net and is possibly a contention issue.

Re: New Fibre installation

Current BTW speedtest results at 5.10pm:-
Download 7.16, Upload 9.30, Ping 67.88
At 14:00 just before the engineer arrived I was getting D37 / U16 / P30
Experience tells me it will get even slower as the evening progresses.
Edit - 4.03/13.58/38.00 at 8pm

Re: New Fibre installation

This morning, 8am still dark - all lights still on in the house.
Down 37.36, Up 14.96, Ping 40.
The BT engineer also said he doesn't believe it's REIN.
If it's congestion somewhere then there must be some way of determining where - traceroute?

Re: New Fibre installation

Yesterday evening @ 9:58pm Down 8.98 Mb/s Up 11.93Mb/s.
This morning before daybreak @7:29am (all electrical equipment on which was on last night)  Down 37.12Mb/s Up 15.05 Mb/s
Please fix this Plusnet , this is not what I am paying for!
