New Fibre connection using TD-W9970

I'm shortly signing up for Fibre unlimited but want to use my own router, switches etc.

It seems the cheapest solution is using a TD-W9970 in bridge mode.

To test this works I have bought a TD and have been trying to connect to a friends Plusnet Fibre. I have tried setting up the TD by using Plusnet_VDSL configuration and choosing bridge mode. I was expecting to be asked for a user name/ password (my friend was going to type them in) but no. And unsurprisingly, the TD didn't connect.

Can anyone give me the steps for the TD? Looking at other threads I have seen screenshots for the 9980 but the 9970 is slightly different.

Apart from the steps, do I have to select anything else?

Thanks for reading.

Re: New Fibre connection using TD-W9970

Hi

Bridge mode is typically modem only mode.

In this mode the unit is a onky a modem and not a router.

Hence, no option to enter the Plusnet credentials as the modem does not manage the PPPoE connection to authenticate with Plusnet.

Is therecan option to enable router mode?

Regards

Richard

Re: New Fibre connection using TD-W9970

Thanks Richard.

I think I now understand! The WAN output will need to go to my router (also a TP-Link) and there I will need to go into the WAN settings and give the Plusnet credentials. Coming from Virgin Media I haven't had to change the WAN settings before.

Is there anything specific I will need to do for the routers' "WAN settings" apart from credentials?

Thanks

Paul

See https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kmeqTIOf9E8

Use the LAN1 port on the w9970 to connect to the WAN port on the router.

Then either use the connectiin wizzard in the router or manually configure PPPoE to authenticate with PN.

I will try it.

The TP page here https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/618/ seems to be the way to go.
