New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

Ever since upgrading 2 months ago to fibre our Kindle Fire (latest models - Oct and Nov 2018 - weve had it replaced) connection on the wifi is abismal. Not downloading books and irregular downloads on most other apps. The same tablet is OK in our local cafe and other public areas. It must therefore be our new router - perhaps not tested with Amazon Kindle Android wifi.

How do I fix?

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

Have you tried giving the 5Ghz WiFi band a different service id to the 2.4GHz band on the Plusnet Hub One?

See: https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/2-4ghz-and-or-5ghz-best-practice/m-p/1351966#M840

Follow the instructions in posts 3 & 4 from @bill888

This has fixed similar issues in the past.

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

Welcome to the forums @cliffthetiff

There is a known issue with the latest Kindle Fire models and the Plusnet Hub One

The thread dealing with it (and many more issues on the Hub One) is at https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/Plusnet-Hub-One-Firmware-update/td-p/1569597

Hi @cliffthetiff,

Thanks for your post.

On this occasion I'd 100% roll with what @SpendLessTime has to say in relation to the thread he's directed you to.

Hopefully we'll be able to force a firmware update through for you which should resolve the issue.

We're sincerely sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

To #mikelahey,

seems you have something there, Kindle working fine on 2.4G - still under test.

Could mean that something is wrong with router firmware though. Think PlusNet have been advised,

Thanks

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

Thanks for the update, a similar problem has been reported with the BT Homehub 5A after a firmware update.

https://community.bt.com/t5/Home-setup-Wi-Fi-network/Constant-wifi-device-disconnections/td-p/144941...

Which isn't surprising considering they are the same hardware internally, just running slightly different firmware.

It looks like BT pushed out a configuration change to their Homehub 5A routers which fixed the issue.

https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Fibre-broadband/BT-Home-Hub-5A-dropping-connection-updates/m-p/145061...

This sounds very much like something @bobpullen may be able to investigate.

Although the update was back in 2015!

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

Given the linked thread is so old, I'm fairly certain the issue being discussed there is unrelated. Whilst the Plusnet Hub One and BT HH5A builds aren't a million miles apart in terms of alignment, there's definitely not 3 years of separation between them Wink

It's fairly easy for me to determine whether or not this issue with the latest Kindles is of the same ilk by extracting some logs from the affected router. It's true that the problem we've observed only affects the 5Ghz radio...

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

Dear bobpullen and all,

the problem seems to have gone away. ?

I am unsure as to what has happened and as a result of reading the aformentioned threads I am now more armed with the knowledge to monitor should the bad comms to our Kindle happen again.

Thanks everyone

Re: New Fibre account trouble with Anroid Tablet

@cliffthetiff, I did check your router logs and couldn't see any evidence of the known problem. There was a crash referenced that I'm not familiar with though, so definitely shout up if the issue resurfaces.
