New 55/10 rollout

Hi, new to this so please bear with me.

As an existing 40/20 customer I was transfered to 55/10 in early August. This worked fairly well apart from peak times when upload fell. After 45 days on 55/10 I raised a ticket as peak upload was very poor. This resulted in a very stable speed of 38up and 9 down ( looked like 40/10)

Three weeks later and several phone calls I am still no nearer a solution. All communications are dealt with by a new name, there is no follow up or compensation. Should I have to accept this downgrade?

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Odd, mine did manage to work at around 51/9 for a while but on 20 Sept it dropped to 38/9 (without resync or reconnection of PPP session) and has been stuck there since.  My sync is a nice solid 55/10.  My communication has been via online chat but nothing gets followed up, I'm a bit disappointed by this.

What sync speed do you get on yours?

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Hi w23

Mine also reverted to 38/9 on 20th Sept and according to Plusnet and BT wholesale my sync speed is 53/10

So what happened 20/10/2016 ?

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Very odd, or a proper coincidence.  Maybe @Chris could see if anything happened on that date?

I wonder if there could be any Geographical link, I'm on Northampton (EMWESTO exchange).

fwiw,

https://community.plus.net/t5/Fibre-Broadband/Upload-speed-artificially-cut-by-PN/td-p/1370914

An openreach engineer apparently had to disconnect my line and perform a 'port reset' before the speed jumped from what looked like a 40/10 profile to 55/10 profile so he informed me.

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Until recently I was on 40/20, testing consistently showing 38/20 and actual 36/7.  My service has now obviously changed in line with the June e-mail and recent BT Wholesale checks now show a sync of 38 down (exactly as before) but 10 up.  Actual speeds in practice are 20-32 download and 6 up.  Checks with BT indicate that my line is capable of 57 down so am I naive in suspecting that perhaps with the imposed changes I am being given the 'stick' element of the change but missing out on the 'carrot'?

Comments from people who know more about these things would be appreciated.

Re: New 55/10 rollout

@bill888 Unfortunately it doesn't sound like the same issue.

With yours, the sync was stuck at 40/10.

@Boxman101 - Yours does sound like it could be similar to @bill888's as your profile is 55/10, but your sync is 40/7. I'd recommend raising a fault at http://faults.plus.net so we can get that raised with our suppliers.

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Just to show this isn't happening to every customer (well, depending on which speed tester you use):

I have also been moved from 40/20 to 55/10. A couple of Ookla speedtests just now gave me a ping of 8/9ms, download speed of around 51Mbps and upload speed of 9.3Mbps. Fine.

On the other hand, the BT Wholesals speed tester a couple of minutes later gave (as usual) much lower results: down 38.3Mbps and up 2.68Mbps. It showed my IP profile as 53.23Mbps down and 10 up.

[Edit:] I've just checked my Plusnet IP Profile (on the page that's still available if you have the URL but that Plusnet don't include in the Member Centre options any more). My 'Current line speed' is listed as 40 Mb. Is this still meaningful? If so, shouldn't it now be 55?

To see your Plusnet profile, go to https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Hi grahamt,

Thanks for the info. I've used both Ookla and BT wholesale which have always given me the same result, 38ish down and 9ish up.

Initially from begining of August I had 51 / 9 for 45 days before things really got slow so opened the ticket.

My BT profile is same as yours 53.23 and 10, Plusnet confirm its 55/10 having first realised it was locked to 40 down.

Your portal link shows 55 down.

May be wrong but I'm convinced my profile is locked to 40/10 somehow

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Tbh I have refrained from posting on the 55/10 issues until now..... I was on 40/20. I was moved to the pseudo 55/10 but appear still to be stuck in the plusnet artificial 55/10. I am still syncing at 80/20 but portal profile 40. Speedstest are around 47/9ish. When us the change to the btw package due to take place and I would appreciate CSC posting what my line profiles are meant to be.

Re: New 55/10 rollout

Hmmm, just checked your link and this is what I get:

Estimated line speed:

51Mb (This may vary between 35.2Mb and 51Mb) - Checked on 2016-09-13 12:37:15

Current line speed:

21Mb

Should I be concerned with my current line speed?
