Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

I am on fttc and struggle sometimes. Especially when my grandson is here.
Bt site availability shows my speed up to 7mb whereas my neighbour opposite shows up to 15mb.
Modem reports 8.22 down and 1.08 up.
Can anything be done?

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

What speeds are shown when you put your phone number into the DSL Checker?

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

HI @malkpm

Having checked your telephone number on the DSL Checker it appears that you are syncing at the higher end of your estimates.

Here is a subsection of the GEA test I just ran relating to your speeds;

Test Outcome Pass

Test Outcome Code GTC_FTTC_SERVICE_0000

Description GEA service test completed and no fault found .

Main Fault Location OK

Sync Status In Sync

Downstream Speed 7.7 Mbps

Upstream Speed 1.1 Mbps

As your line is proving to be performing as expected, I'm afraid there is nothing which we could do to better this.

If you are noticing slower throughput speeds on devices, I would advise looking at our troubleshooting guides here & here

Thanks

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

If you put your number into the dsl checker. https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ It will tell you which cabinet you are connected to. It might be instructive to also try this with your neighbour’s phone number . If you are both connected to the same cabinet then presumably your cable route to the cabinet is a lot longer.

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

Hi Baldrick1. A delay in replying. Whats prompted me to reply is my frustration at not being able to watch Netflix or Iplayer without severe buffering. Its been so bad that I just gave up. This is while I have one visitor ( not streaming ) .

The sync speed as per the modem is 7.33 down and 1.07 up. This is very close to the  dslchecker of 7.4 and 1.2.

The cabinet is 1.56km away.  Annoyingly there is a closer cabinet at 0.64km.

Not Plusnets fault I know. Its that unaccountable unapproachable Openreach.

Thanks for listening. Am just p..... off with it.

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

What are the adsl speeds on the dsl checker are they more maybe u would be better on adsl or do they do cable in your area if my speeds were that on fibre I would be looking elsewhere that's very poor for fibre and I feel for you knowing there's a closer cabinet and they won't change you to it it's rediculous

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

Hi.... I am on FTTC and there is no alternative. Stuck to the Openreach cables.

I noticed last night that when connecting to a site it takes ages.

Using Speedtest sometimes I get that it cant find a server.

Iplayer is so slow. Takes ages to load up then ages to do anything. Unwatchable.

Am using a BT HUB6.

Reverted back to original PN hub. Sync down speed went down to 5.3mb but still had the slow responses.

These speeds were with laptop and cable plugged in directly. I do have latest filter box at the main inlet.

Hope theres an expert on here that can give me some clues although I feel there's not a lot else I can do.

HELP HELP HELP PLEASE

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

Sorry to see the speeds you're getting on fibre.

While we can't influence our suppliers in this field I've filled out a formwize to the Openreach fibre availability enquiries team to query whether there are plans to provide you with faster FTTC speeds or even FTTP instead. We'd generally hear back within 7 working days and I'll let you know when we have heard back.

If you don't hear from me it's just that I've not had a response yet, but feel free to chase us up on here.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

Thanks Gandalf. This is the question I would have asked mysef if I knew who t ask.. There again they would probably say that I am not their customer.

Incidentally the there is a cabinet closer and, my connection passes by it.

My cabinet 1.56km, closer cabinet .64km. I had the lines checked and even the engineer remarked about this.

Fingers crossed but don't hold out too much hope.

Your involvement much appreciated.

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

@malkpm

You can check if there are any current plans for your line at

https://www.homeandbusiness.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/when-can-i-get-fibre

Somewhere on the website there is also a contact area where you can submit a form querying speed (basically the same as PlusNet have just done).

Re: Neighbours speed is double 7mb / 15mb

No worries.

If you want to query this with Openreach directly I'd recommend filling out this formwize: https://www.formwize.com/run/survey3.cfm?idx=505d040e0b080d and it'll essentially go to the same team that would respond to the formwize I've sent off.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
