Missing router from BT openreach

Ok fibre all fitted yesterday as promised  only one problem when BT turned up they only came to fit the new master socket "no modem" they said they didn't have a modem for me!!!. it was lucky that I could get my hands on a modem from a friend !(who had a spare) my question is what would of happened if I could not get a modem, is it possible to set the new router up on fibre without a modem? or would I of been without a service?
ps I do have to return said modem to friend so how do I get the one I should of had??????

you would have been without service, as the plusnet router is just a router, it has no modem.

This is not the first example on these forums of the OR engineer not bringing a modem with him. How can this happen? What is going on?

thanks Joshua i will keep and eye out for it. BT was not very complimentary to the plusnet support team but i have found it very very good when i have needed help (example is this very post)

When you say BT do you mean the OR engineer who forgot the Modem was not complementary about the PN team? Time for retraining I think

Hi Chris,
Not a major issue or priority by any stretch of imagination but thought I should mention that we didn't get left an OR modem either. Engineer turned up, saw that we had a HomeHub5 at the time and didn't leave a modem.
Would be good to have one spare for testing/diagnostics if possible, especially if the hardware's included in the cost of the install you guys pay to BTw!
