Massive latency in multiplayer games

Hello again,

I've contacted Plus Net about this issue before and it's happening again. I'll show the courtesy tracert results:

Is this another BT data center issue?

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

Just pinged that address and getting the same massive spike on that same hop.

I'm also suffering issues on Overwatch like this as well.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

Hi @kerrypuricelli and @crazyfool92,

I'm sorry to see that you're both experiencing this issue. I've had a look into this and have been unable to find any known BT data centre issues at the moment.

Please can you both run through the troubleshooting checks here and let us know how you get on?

If this post resolved your issue please click the 'This fixed my problem' button

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

I've checked all these things and they don't seem to be the issue.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

@kerrypuricelli and @crazyfool92,

The hops you're seeing issues on are outside of our core network and is at a London data centre. This may be a temporary issue that they have but not something we'll be able to resolve without progressing down the standard fault route. I'd suggest you both raise faults here and let us know once you have.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

Looking at those traces, none of them are showing any issues. It's the final hop that latency would show on, intermediate hops will often show increased ping responses as many devices have responses to this type of request as a low priority task or even disabled entirely.

The final hop on them all looks absolutely fine.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

I reported a fault and it's been two days now since then. Nothing i tried in the fault wizard worked.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

I turned off the wireless and so far the fault has stopped.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

I'm glad to see that the issue has been resolved by switching off the wireless.

Did you have any devices connected to the WiFi previously?

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

Yes. But it's not been a problem before. Either way we've talked to Plus Net and they'll be sending an engineer over.

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

I really don't think this needs an engineer as it would almost certainly be a chargeable visit.

If switching your WiFi off resolves the problem then this isn't an Openreach network fault.

What happens if you switch WiFi on but disconnect all wireless devices do you still get the issue?

Re: Massive latency in multiplayer games

If the issue isn't there over a wired connection, then the engineer isn't going to help and TBH would probably mean it's a chargeable visit as it'll be deemed to be internal and not a fault the engineer can help resolve.

Unfortunately wifi can be hit and miss, different routers, different house construction, different conditions etc etc mean there isn't a guarantee that wireless will be a high quality as a wired connection.

There are wifi troubleshooting guides that may help, I'm sure @Gandalf can point you in the right direction.
