Loss of connections to iMac

The problem is that when the iMac goes into sleep mode the router seems to disconnect and reconnect a few moments after wake up. Message 'you are not connected to the internet' appears in the browser.

Now this, on the face of it, does not amount to a great problem, but it also impacts on the wifi connection to my Pure Contour Air and to my HP Photosmart 5524 printer, both of which loose connection which is a pain in the nether regions.

Can anyone offer a solution please.

Re: Loss of connections to iMac

Which Plusnet router are you using?

https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-setup-guides/

If it is a Hub One, take a look at this recent post to see if it helps

Re: Loss of connections to iMac

Hi Bill

Plusnet router is Technicolour and my problem is not really similar as I have no problem making the connections.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Re: Loss of connections to iMac

When you say the 'router disconnects and reconnects', can you elaborate on what you think is disconnecting ?

eg. Are the 'Power', 'Broadband' and/or 'Internet' lights going off or changing colour on the TG582n ?

Has this problem only started to appear recently?

If the TG582n is several years old, it may be on its way out.  eg. faulty power adaptor.

You may also wish to check what version of firmware is installed on the router, but I'm not totally convinced it will resolve your problem. (You would also need a windows pc to install new firmware)

Re: Loss of connections to iMac

I don't think that the router is at fault, mainly because all other tablets, phones etc. run perfectly.

Having checked elsewhere, it seems that this maybe an OSX glitch. I found this:- http://osxdaily.com/2014/04/24/fix-mac-disconnect-wifi-sleep/ and have followed the instructions, it now remains to see if it solves the problem.

Thanks for your interest, I will let you know how it goes.
