Less than 6Mbps - what's going on?

I thought things had gotten a bit slow on my "40/2" line, so did the BTW speed test
Download speedachieved during the test was - 5.74 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis  20 Mbps-38.71 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.71 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 1.32Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 2 Mbps

This is on a cabled connection to the router (not wifi). Please can someone at PN take a look?

Re: Less than 6Mbps - what's going on?

The speed had been as posted above, or thereabouts, all evening - until about 22:45 when I got:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 37.17 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 20 Mbps-38.71 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.71 Mbps
So all is fine now, just when I've finished using the net for the day! We've only been enable for fibre in our area for a few months, so I can't believe there are enough users on stream yet to cause this amount of contention already!?!? Hopefully some transient problem, but will be keeping an eye on this...

Re: Less than 6Mbps - what's going on?

Our tests are showing there's a potential capacity issue in your area.
If you can finish the fault report you started we'll get that investigated.

Thanks for that information, Matthew. I'll try and finish that report this evening, though I probably won't be able to do a speed test between midnight and 4pm.

Re: Less than 6Mbps - what's going on?

That's fine our tests are flagging the issue up so we'll be able to raise it to our suppliers based on that.

Re: Less than 6Mbps - what's going on?

OK, I've completed the fault report.
I ran 2 speed tests before submitting the report. At 19:44 I got a download speed of only 8.78 Mbps, whereas at 19:55 I got 36.15! This is with a wired connection into my router, BTW.
Look forward to getting feedback on what happens with this issue.

I now seriously regret running the second of these tests as I just read in another thread that Plusnet only see the result from the most recent test. If they just see my 36.15 Mbps test, will they close the issue and assume everything is OK????

Re: Less than 6Mbps - what's going on?

That is correct however it's gone straight through to our suppliers so they're aware there's a issue.
It looks like there'll be a further update by the 22nd. Unfortunately capacity issues can take a while to be resolved.
