Re: Latency spikes when streaming - especially Netflix

Hi @Bobsta no problem that’s cool. Looking through this again, the steps you’ve taken and as you’ve tried two different types of router already I think you’re right that it’s probably not worth trying a third. As a final troubleshooting step, is your router plugged into the master telephone socket? I’ve seen fibre connections in extension sockets exhibit all sorts of strange behaviours first hand.

If it is and you’re still seeing lag spikes and packet loss, one of the tickets on your account you’ll find from here https://www.plus.net/wizard/ I’ve since been updating, I’d recommend replying to that one if you’ve not already with your availability for an engineer to visit. Drop us a message over here once you have and we’ll get the engineer booked in as soon as we can. Smiley

Re: Latency spikes when streaming - especially Netflix

Hi @Gandalf - are you able to see a history of what gateway / VLAN my connection uses?

On Saturday evening, in an effort to further troubleshoot the issue, I swapped out my Huawei Openreach modem for an ECI Openreach modem. The issue was still present, so after a few hours I swapped back again. So as from around 9.20pm on 14 Sept I’m back on my original setup - but now the issue appears to have gone.

... you can see me swap Huawei for ECI at 6.30pm - base latency (in green) goes up a touch. Then at 9.20pm I switch back to Huawei (small red blip of packet loss)... minimum latency doesn’t go back down but performance is now much better.

Yesterday: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality/share/b10a924923ac25ac8a57f1b34b6d9e9d50...

I now don’t want to touch it as all is good. But I’d really like to know what’s changed with my connection on this latest sync.

I’ve checked my VDSL stats and everything is identical to before: http://home.bobsta.com/fullstats.htm

Thanks,

Re: Latency spikes when streaming - especially Netflix

Hi @Bobsta unfortunately we can’t see the history of the gateways/VLANs but I’m glad to see that your connection is looking a lot healthier! Thumbs_Up

In the last two graphs, was there the same/similar amount of usage going on?

I’ll retest your line when I’m in the office this afternoon although I suspect that it won’t show anything different either as line tests weren’t detecting any problems before.

Re: Latency spikes when streaming - especially Netflix

@Bobsta I've retested your line and there are still no issues or changes flagging up. I'd recommend keeping an eye on things and hopefully the latency spikes won't come back but if they do, feel free to let me know to investigate further. Smiley
