Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

Hello, this morning my internet got disconnected then reconnected and now my latency has gone from 20ms average to 35ms average. My internet has been stable for 20days up until now. I have noticed my interleaved depth has dramatically increased to 1779 download and fast path upload. As I do alot of online gaming this is quite important for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi @brownyy, thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry to hear you've been seeing performance issues as of recent. When checking your account from this side I can see there current looks to be a profile banding meaning your missing out on a few Mbps with he download. I've adjusted this on the account correctly moving forwards however and you should see the speeds slightly increase.

Testing your connection from this side and seen by the graph below, we aren't detected anything out of place in regards to your connection or the the profile our suppliers side.

I'd maybe check then to see if the ping increase you're seeing is across multiple devices as this may help narrow down the cause of the issue further. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

Thanks for having a look, I haven’t really been having problems with the speed it’s just the ping. Is there anyway you can take the error protection off the downstream? As I believe this is what’s causing the issue as the path mode is interleaved with a high depth.
Cheers

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

Hi @brownyy, thanks for getting back to me. Looking at the profile for your line there currently doesn't look to be any error protection in place now any interleaving to help with errors.
The profile as seen below looks to e optimal for performance currently:

"0.128M-40M Downstream, Interleaving Low - 0.128M-10M Upstream, Error Protection Off"

In regards to the performance issues you've been seeing, is this occuring solely over wireless devices or on wired connections also?

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

@brownyy  Your line has recently changed to a high depth of interleaving, note that the "interleaving low" profile in the GEA test has a timestamp of 18th August so is almost 2 weeks out of date. Unfortunately Plusnet have no control over line parameters on FTTC, it is all done by the Openreach automated DLM system. ☹️

@BD  The current line profile is definitely not interleaving low!

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

@BD Hi please could you take another look as for some reason the speeds have gone even slower and the ping as increased? My average speed is now 29Mbps and my ping is 35> I have a feeling my line has been banded. Could you do another GEA test for me?

thanks

Hiya @brownyy, I'm sorry to hear you are having some issues.

I have provided a new GEA test for you. Your download is looking the same but the upload has decreased slightly.

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

Thank you for that. Yes I have noticed my upload speed is only around 6Mbps which I’m not to bothered about.
when I run a wired speed test the max I get is 30Mbps. Is there anyway you can request a reset to the DLM? Hoping it will sort the interleaving out and take the downstream protection off to
Improve the ping like it did before.

Thanks

Cheers

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

Further to my last message. I have ran another test this morning on BT` Wholesale although it won't let me go into "additional Diagnostics"  My speeds have degraded further. Now my download is around 7-10Mbps and upload 2-3Mbps ping 45.

Cheers

Re: Latency has gone from 20ms to 35ms>

Good morning @brownyy

Thanks a lot for reaching out and I'm really sorry to see that this issue is getting worse. Tests on the line this morning have picked up similar results seen by my colleagues, the line is syncing at 37.1 Mbps (apparently), and the speeds have recovered from a recent drop off. I've been unable to get into the router though to check out some wireless settings, are you using the Hub One?

Just a quick note about the Broadband profile as well, DLM automatically adjusts this based on line performance, so for instance, there were 4 dropouts on Saturday, which is why, I'm assuming anyway, DLM increased the level back up to high.

Unfortunately, unlike ADSL2+, we're unable to make any manual adjustments to the DLM profile, other than requesting a speed banding reset, as your profile shows though, it's not banded.

Current Profile: Downstream: 0.128M-40M with Interleaving (High). Upstream: 0.128M-10M with no error protection

Please get back to me if you are using the Hub One as there's a few things I'd like to explore before making any further suggestions. Smiley
