Hi there,
I've been suffering for the past week with some annoying lag spikes, it's only in League of Legends. Some times it's a small spike of a few ms, sometimes it's up near 200ms.
It is extremely annoying, not gonna lie, is there anything that can be done?
I recently changed router in the hopes it was the old router that was the cause, it was not.
I've followed some helpful tips from reddit like disabling IP helper, disabling windows from downloading updates in the background but no joy as of yet.
Any help would be great
Thanks

Hi @Theo1612 thanks for getting in touch. I'm sorry to see you're experiencing latency spikes while playing League of Legends. When you say it only affects that, do you play any other online games to compare against? If other games are fine and you're using the same connection and device, I'd be inclined to say the issue seems to lie with League of Legends.
Having said that it may depend on how resilient the other games you play are to the lag spikes.
Could you also run a traceroute to pingbox1.thinkbroadband.com posting up the results?

Hi Gandalf,
I play Destiny 2 and I've been playing the new Call of Duty.
The traceroute is below.
Tracing route to pingbox1.thinkbroadband.com [80.249.99.164]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 4 ms 4 ms 4 ms dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254]

Thanks for getting back to us @Theo1612 There doesn't seem to be any issues on that traceroute, are you able to run a traceroute to the League of Legends server you're having trouble with?

Hi Gandalf,
I seem to have fixed it, don't know how but not having any issues today. I did a network reset on my pc last night and it seems fine.
I did have a disconnect there, are you able to tell me if that was you?

Thanks for the update @Theo1612 it actually looks like a static IP fixed this problem for you. I can see you requested a static IP via your account on 28/10/19 at 02:12 but the disconnect 17 minutes ago had applied the static IP.
Just to confirm did you have any issues last night or this morning following the network reset you've done on your PC? If the problems went away since the disconnect I'll take this away to our networks team to investigate further as there shouldn't ideally be any difference between having a static or dynamic IP, they should both just work normally.

I done the network reset last night, can't remember the time.
So I'm currently in a game, I have spotify playing, 2 Twitch streams open, and my mum has a Youtube playing on the smart tv. The issue seems to be fixed, thankfully.
Let's not change anything just incase.
Can you tell me if there are issues with the main Plusnet site though? I'm getting a 403 forbidden error
Edit. Nevermind, Plusnet site is back up and running for me

Thanks for the explanation @Theo1612
No problem. I'll leave things as they are, it's good to see everything's working smoothly now as it should do.
Feel free to let us know if there's anything else you'd need help with.

Hi @Theo1612,
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue again. I've tested your line today and I can see the connection is dropping out, however our line tests aren't picking up why this would be occurring. I can see that you've raised a ticket with our Tech Support Team and that you've gone through the troubleshooter, but just before we go any further, please could you confirm if you've set your router up within the test socket in the property? If not, I would strongly recommend doing so and we have a guide on how to do this here.

Hi @TheMightyAJ,
The router is connected to the test socket. It seems to be when I'm watching Youtube videos, doesn't happen with the Smart TV in the living room.
It also doesn't happen when I play Netflix or use Spotify on the PC. Only Youtube. Does that mean there's an issue with my PC or Youtube?

Thanks for getting back to us @Theo1612
If you're only encountering the issue on one device then it's likely to lie with the device itself.
Have you tried a different browser to see if it's a browser issue?

I'm looking into replacing the powerline adapters I use with an ethernet cable, could you tell me which one I would need?
Is it a CAT6a I should be looking at?

Thanks for getting back to us @Theo1612
Although there are a variety of different types of ethernet cable, that one should do the trick.
Let us know how it goes.
