Re: Just moved from Sky - sync speed lower and getting worse

Hi @pauldavies83, thanks for getting back to us regarding your recent engineer visit. I have looked into your fault, connection and fault ticket and added a update which can be seen here.

Re: Just moved from Sky - sync speed lower and getting worse

Since the engineer visit made little difference (a slight bump in sync speed, but only to ~30Mbps)...

I've swapped the Hub One out for a Huawei HG612 and a Google WiFi router.

1) My WiFi issues have completely disappeared. The WiFi portion of the Hub One I was supplied (even after trying every possible configuration), was either poor quality or faulty.

2) The line is now in sync at ~37Mbps, much closer to the ~40Mbps we had with Sky just before the move.

This seems like too much of a coincidence not to conclude that both issues were due to the Hub One you supplied.

Also, could you help me understand why the modem is currently in sync HIGHER than the the max rates it is reporting in xdslcmd?

Many thanks

Paul

Re: Just moved from Sky - sync speed lower and getting worse

Hopefully someone with a more detailed knowledge than I will come along and comment but to my untrained eye it looks like your downstrean SNR is running at a very low 2dB with a corresponding high error rate. You may be in sync at 37Mbps but what speed do you get using a speedtester?

On one occassion I had a slow down and on checking found my aync speed higher and the SNR at 1.8dB. Powering off the router using the modem/router on/off switch brought it back to its normal 3dB.

Re: Just moved from Sky - sync speed lower and getting worse

Yeah I thought that odd. I've never had such a low SNR, the Hub One never went below 6dB

speedtest.net gives 31 throughput on WiFi though, which is pretty much as good as its been on PN

Re: Just moved from Sky - sync speed lower and getting worse

and I'm fairly sure that the Max Rate estimates by the router are based on a standard 6db target.
