Intermittent loss of connectivity from a single device

Hi,

I have two devices that I use for web browsing. One is a desktop PC connected via 5Ghz wifi. The other is a laptop connected via 2.4Ghz (Ive split the networks for better performance in the 5Ghz range).

Every half an hour or so the laptop loses connection. I can ping the router fine, but if I run tracert to www.google.com the first hop (to the router) is fine, the second hop (to a local plusnet address) is also fine, but then it times out after that.

Turning off Wifi and turning it on again resolves the issue, until the next time. While all this is going on the desktop connection is rock solid.

On one hand this points to a problem with the laptop, but the fact that tracert gets as far as the downstream plusnet router(if thats what it is) has me confused. Any ideas?

@pauljwilliams

On the 2.4Ghz router settings page, is there an option for sometime called channel width with options auto, 20MHz, 40Mhz?

If so try setting it to 20Mhz

I think its already set to that, as its listed as 144 Mbps, which I think indicates 20Mhz channel width.
