Intermittent connection problems - Gateway ping fail

I've been getting hanging sites for a couple of days. I tried changing the DNS to Google's but it made no difference.

Running diagnostic tests on my router shows a constant fail on Gateway ping which is unusual.

I have been using the supplied modem and attaching my Router Modem in Router mode, today I have restored my Router Modem to normal mode, both methods test Gateway ping fail regardless.

Is there a fault at the PlusNet end?

Speeds seem reasonable but a shaky connection doesn't cut the mustard.

If there is a fault your end, I'll stop trying to find one at my end and altering things. Please let me know either way.

Re: Intermittent connection problems - Gateway ping fail

The gateway not responding to ping is normal and not indicative of a fault.

Re: Intermittent connection problems - Gateway ping fail

Thanks, however it has always passed on my Router before, which puzzles.

Something has changed seemingly. For many months any Ookla Speedtest found servers in the vicinity of Sheffield, going a bit further back I was apparently connected to Servers on the Southbank in London and a Speedtest linked to test servers in the London area, closest pings.

For the last week or so Milton Keynes  and Coventry are popular test servers.

Seems odd.

Re: Intermittent connection problems - Gateway ping fail

Just wait until Ookla thinks your local servers are in Southern California!!!

It's happened to me a couple of times though thankfully I already knew the answer as to why. PlusNet has a small number of IP addresses which link back to an American location in certain geo-location databases. My current IP address shows BT Global Services.

Your router may have re-booted at some point and you got re-connected to a different PlusNet gateway hence Ookla thinking your nearest servers are different.
