Intermittent DNS timeout for any server

My Fibre connection has been fine since it was setup in January.  This week however I've started seeing frequent DNS lookup timeouts.  I normally use OpenDNS, but switching to Google or the Plusnet DNS gives the same result, eg

nslookup - 8.8.8.8

Server: UnKnown
Address: 8.8.8.8

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
Non-authoritative answer:
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
Name: www.bbc.net.uk
Addresses: 212.58.246.94
212.58.244.70
Aliases: www.bbc.co.uk

At the same time that DNS lookups timeout I see no packet loss from a continuous ping to 8.8.8.8.

Reconnecting makes no apparent difference.

It seems like something on the route is dropping DNS packets. Anybody seen similar issues?
