IP address showing I am in the North East when I am on the Isle of Wight

Hi,

I have had IP address 31.125.48.186 for a couple of months now and I am unable to refresh it by disconnecting overnight. The location shown by this address is 'United Kingdom - NE30, North Shields - From your Internet address', so I have problems with, for instance, deliveries.

Can someone please advise how I can renew my IP address to something more local.

I'm confused.

How can your IP address location have any bearing on deliveries?

Don't know how but a couple of Ebayers for instance state 'we do not deliver to the Isle of Wight' even though I have not logged in. I can only assume it is my IP address giving them (or Ebay) my location...

But you said your IP address is saying 'North Shields'.

Is it not quite common for sellers to state in  their general terms that they only deliver to UK mainland, and sometimes even excluding the Scottish Highlands?

A check on your quoted IP address says it's on EE.

If you posted one of these listings here, I'm sure we'd all see the same. I'm pretty sure that it can't be 'tailored' depending on where we are or what our IP address is.

Thanks @198kHz  I see your point - can't be the IP address then.

@Strat - Thinkbroadband think I am with EE but Ookla speedtest think I am with BT - not sure what is going on there.

IP address lookup databases in this country are totally unreliable. Once I checked mine on 5 different databases and got three different answers. Not one was within 100 miles of where I live.

Another effect of having this IP address (see attached). Google 'thinks' I am in the North East.

I have just looked up mine on four different IP address location websites.

2 say that I am in Stoke Poges.

1 says Alloway in Scotland

1 says City of Westminster.

I live in the Midlands!
