Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

Not being a pain, just interested. On the Kitz website it says:

"For users on a 21CN exchange, the IP profile is calculated as 88.2% of your sync speed.
For FTTC/VDSL2 it is calculated as ~ 96.8% of your sync speed."

My current router stats are:

Data rate:
20.00 Mbps / 80.00 Mbps

Maximum data rate:
24766 / 82613

Noise margin:
8.7 dB / 4.4 dB

My current BT Wholesale IP Profile is 70.56. This works out exactly to the percentage of 88.2 if on a 21CN Exchange. I have looked up the exchange and it is 21CN enabled but also has FTTC for certain areas, like mine. I know the previous owner only had ADSL and I'm wondering if I'm stuck on that percentage and when I first got fibre ordered, they didn't reset something correctly.

Do you think this is just a coincidence, or is my profile set to the 21CN and not FTTC? The IP Profile does not budge unless I do a resync or the noise margin changes slightly, but even then it's in the 0.0+ range, but it's already at the max of 80/20 and the IP Profile wont go higher.

I did a quick distance check and the minimum is about 280m and max 500m but 500m would be a strange way for BT to get the line to me as it would take the long route. I followed the BT ducts to find out both, thanks street view Cheesy

I would of thought BT Wholesale would have some kind of exact figures for their IP Profiles, and everywhere I am seeing says it should be about 96-97% of sync rate. I was previously told cross talk was not an issue, my line is good and new.

So I guess my question is, if this is the case, will the DLM ever realise that it's on an ADSL type IP Profile percentage or not?

Does BT Wholesale use percentages for their IP Profiles or do they just randomly cap people?

Although this prob can't be classed as a fault my side. It could be classed as a BT Wholesale fault their side.

I also forgot to mention, speed tests always cap out at the BT Wholesale IP Profile. It wants more but wont go past it.

Thanks

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

Sorry to hear you're having issues.

Our tests are showing your sync speed as 76.6mbps which doesn't quite match up with what you're seeing.

Can you confirm what your data rate is showing as today?

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

It could be becase on the DSL checker for my number it shows a max of 77mb down. Although it also shows max observered speed as 79.99mb down. My guess is that they capped the cabinet to 77.

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

Hi @scottrc

I have checked DSL myself and can see that you are correct in saying that the High Estimate for your line is 77Mbps.

I fear you may be right in your assumption. Checking your line shows a profile of 0.128M-80M and a sync speed of 76.6Mbps. This all seems in keeping with the line characteristics which our supplier have indicated.

Thanks,

MoR

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

A Retransmission High profile does result in the GEA test showing a lower value for the sync speed than the modem. However, I would then expect the IP profile to be about 96.8% of the 76.6Mb given by the test, which works out as about 92% of the sync speed show by the modem.

I think the estimates are irrelevant to the issue. I have never heard of anyone being capped to the upper end of their estimate before.

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

Yeah, there's something wrong with my IP Profile settings for sure but as my speeds are within the "limits" I can't raise a fault. The only way to fix it is to change provider. Silly that.

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

@scottrc,

From the testing we're able to do everything looks fine with your line. If you want it investigating we can of course do this, but the only way to do this is via a fault, and fibre faults generally end up in engineer visits being issue because remote reset tools have not been rolled out to ISPs yet.

If you do want to progress down this route please raise a trouble report here.

Re: IP Profile and Provisioning

Think I will leave it because it's not a massive change and would prob end up with a call out charge to be honest.
