I need a better router than the Plusnet home hub

The range of this router is pathetic.

My router is in my living room which is at the back of the house. If I video chat my girlfriend and she goes into the garden (2-3 meters outside), we lose the video call, it just drops. Also when I go into my car which is on my drive, the wifi is so weak everything takes absolutely ages to load/work.

I am looking at upgrading my router to one that is not issued by the ISP.

Anyone bought a new router with very good range and speed?

This site has a good discussion of the various all-on-one modem/routers on the UK market http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14436.0.html

Site is ran by a Plusnet customer

Or you could use a WiFi analyser and see which local WiFi signal from other users and ask them what they use.

There are a couple of local businesses around here that manage to swamp some of the channels.

Amazon Warehouse are currently selling the TP-Link VR900 in "Used - Very Good" condition for about £55 including a 20% discount.

Is the Smart Hub 6 the new one with very good range?

Its fine in the house its just outside.

My router is on the floor behind the TV, I could just put it on the window ledge and see if it improves.

Yes it is The latest BT offer. Only works with plusnet or BT

If you go down the BT Smart hub route then  then see my setup guide for it  at #20 here

Re: I need a better router than the Plusnet home hub

I upgraded my RT-N66U to a RT-AC68U, mainly for the stronger wifi. Certainly made a welcome difference.

Might as well get the latest AC standard and I would recommend Asus without hesitation..

Let's be careful out there !

Is it not the case that advice tends to be to keep routers away from TV's in case of WiFi interference elsewhere in the property.
