Hub One - Slower connection speeds on AC vs N

Can anyone shed any light, or share similar experiences to me with the new Plusnet Hub One?
When I speed test connected to my hub wired I get full fibre download speeds circa 60-65 Mbps.
When I test right next to the hub one on wireless AC with my laptop (Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260) I only get 27Mbps.

When I test right next to the hub one with wireless N with the same laptop I get 60Mpbs

In the same position with my phone I get 42Mbps on AC and with N I get 49Mbps
I've checked the rated WiFi connection speed on my laptop and phone in AC mode. My dual band laptop connects at 800Mbps and Phone at 450Mbps. I know these aren't actual speeds but I also know they should be far beyond bottlenecking my fibre connection.
I tested this also by plugging in an access point to the hub one and instead running a test through the access point using my laptop with wireless AC. The connection to the access point is actually slower (433Mbps) when next to it, but even though its plugged in to the hub one via a fast homeplug, I still get a better connection result than connected when connecting wireless to the Hub One.

All of these tests have been conducted when my phone or laptop have been the only device connected and using the Hub One. Both my access point and router are running on different channel ranges and do not overlap.
I also performed the same tests in different property with a fibre connection and instead of the Hub one a BT modem connected to a Netgear R7000 router. In this property I get the full speed even in a room far away from the router using AC. N is slower as the connection degrades at distance as it should be.
Why am I getting such poor AC speeds compared to N? Especially on my laptop?
I've been disappointed with the new Hub, not only do I experience these speed problems, but the light is also too bright even when dim (we have to keep the hub in a bedroom) and the damn thing even makes a noise when the internet is being used, eg during a download.

It's a possibility that there is interference on the wireless channel.
Can you navigate to the hubs admin page at http://192.168.1.254/ and go to settings. Then click 'Refresh wireless channel to avoid interference'
Maybe that will help.

I've had no noise from the Hub One (perhaps it's thinking its on dial up  ) however if it persists, Plusnet may be able to investigate and sort out a solution.

Thank you for your reply. I tried what you said and I also tried setting different wireless channels too, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I even have an app on my phone that detects channels to make sure non are overlapping and they don't. I used the app when I bought my access point to make sure channels weren't overlapping on both frequencies.
I actually have black duct tape over the LED! It is insanely bright at night!
The noise isn't similar to dial up, its more a kinda whooshing noise and it only happens when downloading/uploading or loading large pages. Basically whenever it is in use.
I can't make out what the problem is, it doesn't happen on any other router with this wireless card.
