Hi,
I have a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and I want to use it instead of the PlusNet Technicolor unit, mainly for better wireless connectivity.
However I am not sure how to set it up.
Does it replace just the Technicolor router or the router and the BT OpenReach cable modem?
Looking at the PlusNet support pages it just mentions setting up PPPoE http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/broadband-connection-settings.shtml
But the TP-Link help describes a different method of setting up static or dynamic IP, no mention of PPPoE http://uk.tp-link.com/article/?faqid=85
Thanks

It just replaces the Plusnet router, you connect it to the BT modem.
This will help to show the settings.

Access the GUI page and select
Network -> WAN
Connection type is PPPoE/Russia PPPoE
Insert your username : <user>@plusdsl.net
type your password (twice)
disable secondary connection
select "connect automatically" (or use "connect on demand" with a 0 idle time, as I do - it is almost the same, but avoids the lockout than can occur when there is a general authentication failure and you can also disconnect, wait as long as you want and then reconnect).
You can ignore the "advanced" box at the bottom

Edit: Also, when it's up a running, don't forget to go to "System Tools -> Backup & Restore" to backup your settings

Thanks for the response, I will give it a go over the weekend.
Does the TP-Link work well with PlusNet?
I haven't had any problems with the standard router apart from the wireless signal doesn't travel that far.

I've not had any problems with mine, though I've only had fibre since the end of September. I used the WR1043ND for a long(ish) time prior with ADSL (for the Gb ethernet ) but only for a short time through the modem/router in bridge mode (to test and save the set-up ready for fibre) as that removed access to line stats. I haven't bothered to re-flash with DD-WRT for the extra features as I don't (yet) feel I need them
