How long for SafeGuard to allow a site?

SafeGuard was blocking one of the Tumblr media servers as "tasteless" which is a bit rubbish as loads of different Tumblrs will use different media servers.

I have added the specific server to my allowed sites but it's still being blocked.

How long should it take?

Well, it does work for me, in that it blocks a lot of stuff I don't want my children to see!

Re: How long for SafeGuard to allow a site?

When I have made changes in the past they have usually been there in a few mins, maybe up to 30 minutes.

What category is it that blocks it and what URL are you adding, i can try to see if its works here or not.

SO far ive not had many problems with it either, works for what i need it to do as an extra layer of protection!

Re: How long for SafeGuard to allow a site?

If I use the "unblock this category for an hour" it works as expected and I can see the urls.

Re: How long for SafeGuard to allow a site?

Software is not an option for me - I don't want to have to install and manage it on all our devices across half a dozen different operating systems.

However, I had forgotten about OpenDNS's equivalent of SafeGuard... Cheers, I'll have a go at setting that up this evening.

This is actually a really good article to read!! Nice for them to recognise education of children is a key part of it and not just a technology problem.

To me though a lot of what they say point to SafeGuard being pretty good, one of their IOS solutions is a £200 router or £5/month subscription to get a new wifi access point that can control things. Neat solution but expensive compared to free!

@shevek just tried the same sessings as you, already had tasteless blocked and 68.media.tumble.com gives the block page, tried unblocking couple of hours ago and still blocked. I also added a new site to be blocked and that hasnt been blocked yet either.

If I unblock for an hour then it goes straight through, weird!

Exactly! Which is why the OpenDNS option is ideal for me

Re: How long for SafeGuard to allow a site?

Yep, exactly the same behaviour I see...

Considering the whole system seems to be a complete copy of BT's equivalent which worked fine for me ( I switched from BT to PN in August) PN seem to have broken it somehow
