How do i get fibre broadband?

So we recently switched to Plusnet in my house but just the standard broadband, not fibre, because in my area there's no availability on the cabinet or something...  i don't quite understand it and also how do i check when there is space on the cabinet?


If someone could explain the whole cabinet thing it would be so helpful because i can't take this internet speed much more... it's atrocious! Not a reflection of Plusnet at all because it was also terrible with Sky so... yeah! Any help or info would be much appreciated!

to find out what is available in your area.

At the moment your broadband comes into your house via the telephone cables.

Fibre also uses the same cables, but is sent via the green cabinets (the cleaner ones as they are newer) and then they use fibre optics to the exchange. This allows for a faster service depending on how far you are from the cabinet.

This is known as Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC).

The other service, if you are lucky to be able to get it, is Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) , this is a lot faster, more expensive, does not use the telephone wires. Not all providers are able provide this service.

If you use the links provided above you'll be able to see when your cabinet goes from waiting list to available.

Once that happens all you need to do is contact our Customer Options team.

They can be contacted on 0800 013 2632 and are open the following hours

  •     Monday to Friday- 9 am while 8 pm
  •     Saturday - 9 am while 7 pm
  •     Sunday - 9 am while 6 pm
